VideoWave mpeg conversion question

joeinTX

Question

I add a DVR-MS file to my VideoWave project and it says it needs to convert it to mpeg before editing. So, it creates the mpeg and I edit and export as MPEG-2 High Definition 1080p.

The quality of video/sound on the unedited, converted dvr-ms mpeg is much better than the exported, edited mpeg out of VideoWave.

So my question is, what option do I choose in VideoWave to replicate the quality that is produced on the original dvr-ms to mpeg conversion that VideoWave does?

Yes, in the drop down I chose "MPEG-2 High Definition 1080p".

Like I mentioned in the first posting, the mpeg that VideoWave creates to make the DVR-MS file is stunning. The output that is comes of the edited footage is still very good, but noticeably degraded from the original. One noticeable difference is the sound. The original mpeg keeps the Dolby Digital sound while the edited one goes to 2 channel PCM.

I guess the question is do you have any idea what the default settings are within VideoWave (or underlying conversion software) that creates that original mpeg?

BTW - Thanks for taking an interest in my case and taking the time to confer with me.

When you finish the edit in VideoWave, save the file (project). Open MyDVD (Make DVD Advanced) select the type of project and then project settings. There is a choice of a couple of audio settings. Add your project(s).

Note: that you can select one of several options if you output the file from VideoWave. Under the type of output, click new and select the audio you want.

I suppose we would need more info as to what choices you made for output. The default audio output should be AC3 stereo. Creator 2009 does not support surround sound.

I guess that is where I am a little lost. When VideoWave does the DVR-MS to MPEG conversion, here is the resulting output:

Video:

Data Rate: 23079

Total Bitrate: 23459

Frame Rate: 29 Frames/second

Audio:

Bit rate: 384 kbps

Channels: 6

Audio Sample Rate: 48 khz

If it can do the conversion in 5.1, how come it doesn't support the same settings in Export As...? If I pick AC3 5.1 in the template it gives me "unable to render graph".

Also, to replicate the Video bitrate, I have to choose the 1080p profile in Export. In doing so, the 2 hour clip goes from 17.7 GB to over 22 GB without 5.1 and it still is not as clear as the original.

Is it possible that maybe the DVR-MS to MPEG is not really a conversion, but more of a filename or header change, so the quality exceeds what VideoWave can produce on an actual conversion?

Did you choose a hidef MPEG output in Videowave?
