Hibernation

Recommended Posts

I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my laptop including drive format. Afterwards I upgraded the RAM to 4gb. Both op's were successful :) with one exception.

Now using the power options I am unable to get the Hibernation to work, when I tick the enable hibernation box and select "Apply" I get a message :-

"Unable to reserve Hibernation file"

"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Any ideas please

Keith

I am not running XP Pro right now but do you have the "Allow Hybrid Sleep" option? Hibernate should be set to Never or 0 to turn it off. Are you logged on as an admin? Have you installed the latest XP service pack?

You may want to check the manufacturer's site for a patch specific to your model of laptop.

Do you think this is a Roxio problem? If so why?

Microsoft has had problems with Hibernation on several OS's, best advice don't use it!

Will Sleep mode work? I find for sleep to work correctly, some tweaking needs to be done. Any wireless devices should have the 'allow this device to bring the computer out of standby' unchecked. Also, network cards may cause sleep and hibernation to not work properly and if you don't need to wake remotely, the same check should be ticked off.

In a google search I found this: Have you installed Demon Tools or Alchohol burner software ??

if yes then uninstall it\them and restart... enable hibernation.... if its working then you can reinstall the software.

But, there's lots of google info on the subject.

CD, this is the forum where folks are supposed to post about non-Roxio issues.

Did you think I was scolding the OP?

I simply asked if he thought it was a Roxio problem...

Thanks for the General Chat forum explanation, although it wasn't needed....

There is no tone inflection in the written words here, so I had no way of knowing. The OP did not mention Roxio in his post.

And, I wasn't dissing you, CD.
