How to convert VHS to DVD

toyforme

Question

Hi,

I have purchased Roxio Creator 2009 specioal edition for the purpose of converting all of my VHS tapes to DVD's. I understand just enough to be dangerous and really need your help on this.

Understand how to hook-up the Video Capture USB Devise, but that's all I understand.

How do you copy the VHS tape to the Blank DVD disk while using Video Capture USB Devise ?

I have checked the forum for the answer and can't seem to find it any place.

There was a referance to AV Capture & Output and can't find that one either.

Need help for me to be able to use this program .

Respectfully

Toyforme

Would not attempt to use the Plug & Play. Using Video Capture USB Devise and nothing else to Capture VHS for transfer to DVD.

On the Select a devise or source to import from, When I click on the down error to click on USB 2861 devise it comes out then before I can click on it it's gone, after playing with it for quite some time I do get to click on it if I'm fast enough. Something is wrong their, but I don't know how to correct the problem.

When capturing the video the capture setting I used was DVD HQ and Composite Video and it was saved on C:\Document & Settings|my name\My Documents\My Video. When searching for it with the search tool it is there, but when I go Edit Video-Advanced I can't find it anywhere, what am I doing wrong ? If go on Windows Explorer it's in My Videos.

I can copy it to a DVD without Using Video Wave [Edit Video-Advance]

From Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) navigate to the file and right click on it. When the dialog pops up, select :open with" and select "chose program", scroll down to Video Wave 11. Select that. Note do not select always use.

Just which one are you refering to ? you must remember that I'm new at this and don't no all the short cuts. I have printed out the Plug and Burn section and the Video Capture USB Devise section.

Still don't understand how to burn VHS tape to DVD.

You really don't want to use Plug and Burn for a lot of reasons. Connect your VHS player to the USB device -1 video, 2 audio cables. Plug the USB device directly into a USB port on the back of your computer; not a USB hub. Open Creator 2009 (is that what you have/). Go to "Video-Movies" and the left and click on "Capture Video". When that is opening, turn on the VHS and set it to pause. Select "Video" and the USB device you are using. It is pretty straight forward from there.

When the video is captured, close that application, open Video Wave (Edit video-advanced) add the captured file. Any do your editing. There are two help files. This work flow process and this How to. karri has some great basic videos and I have a few slightly more involved.

If you have questions come back and ask them after you have tried doing some of it. That way we will be able to understand where you are having the problem.

It is a little confusing at first until you realize that it is complex work and is not going to be as easy as you thought

Steve outlined some things to look at and the Help files are good too once you settle on a specific project.

Get a disc or 2 of RW media for learning and experimenting. It can be erased and reused so you won’t be reluctant to try it… (I have worn a path between my burner and my DVD Players :D )

I did the above just like it's show above and there is no Video Wave 11 . The following is what comes up:

5.0 Vedio Convert 11

AudioCodec VideoCore 11

Certificates VideoUI 11

Common Virtual Drive 11

Creator Classic 11

Digital Home 11

Dragon

Meda Import 11

PhotoSuite 11

Retreive 11

Roxie Central 4

Sidewinder

SyncIt

Didn't know how to copy the information and paste it in this form, so did it the hard way.

That is just a list of the folders under Roxio Creator 2009. Did you right click on the captured file, then select "Open With"? From the list above you did something else.

FRom the folder list, goto VideoUI 11, open the folder and see if there is an application called VideoWave11.exe

Captured a Video Movie from VHS tape onto my hard drive, everything went according to plan.

Did have some trouble with being able to select the USB Devise form the drop down menu, don't know how to over come this.

After capturing the video, I closed the application, opened Video Wave [Edit video-advanced] , but was unable to add the captured file, I tried everything ,but nothing works for me.

How come you can't capture a Video and burn it to a DVD while it is being captured ?

Still reading all the information supplied by both of you. First I print it out so that I'm able to go over it from time to time.

Thanks for the help

Exactly w trouble are you having "selecting the USB device"?

Why were you unable to add the captured video in VW? What did you try? Do you get any error messages? You are not supplying much information except "it does not work"

Of course you can capture "Plug & Burn" but it is a bit of Russian Roulette. The program has to capture the video, convert it to DVD compliant mpeg2 and then burn it all at once. One little hiccup or if your system is not good enough and you have another toaster

You say you were unable to add the captured file???

That is too vague to even get a hint of what is going on… What error message was issued?

I did a brief post concerning Plug & Burn but it says the same thing Walt said, you will be sorry in the end… Think about it, not a single Guru here will recommend it! Must be a reason?

Look at the image below. What is the option chosen for the filter type?

Which of the two icons on the top left of the image is selected? Once the folder icon is selected, use the dropdown box beside it to navigate to the folder location of the file. Can you find the file now?

One more thing: When you use Windows Explorer, are the file extensions visible? If not, set them to be visible and try locating the file again using Media Selector.
