Damaged File?

aahh1us

Question

Hi Gang - My 1st post here, hoping someone can help me.

System - Mac Mini Core Duo and 1.5Ghz Celeron (Toshiba Laptop)

I have a Filemaker runtime for Mac and for PC that I wrote for my clients.

My problem is importing data into the PC version of my Runtime. I am not having problems with the Mac version. I AM able to import into the PC version from my Mac via wifi, no problem. The problem lies in saving my datafile to DVD. I use the Mac to process the data then I use Toast 7.02 and make a cross-platform disc (I am pretty sure all the setting are right). Again, I do not have a problem importing from the disc with the Mac. However, I get an error from my PC runtime during the import saying that the file "is damaged and cannot be opened. Use the Recover command to recover this file." I am currently using DVD-RW discs to test the issue. Again, the exact same file imports fine into the Mac version from the disc. My PC recognizes the DVD and the data file when I load the DVD, the problem is in the import, or the disc, or some incompatability of writing to the disc from the Mac ...

It is confusing to me that the file is able to import via wifi (Mac to PC) but not via the disc. Does anyone know if there is an issue with Toast working with the Intel Macs? Or compatability of discs between Intel Macs and PCs? Could it be a DVD-RW issue?

My Mac Mini is relatively new - the process worked ok with my old PowerMac G4 (it died- RIP), but this new issue is confusing me.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks for your imput.

This is outside of my expertise, but as an experiment try burning the DVD using the DVD-ROM (UDF) format instead. That also is cross-platform.

I agree, and here are a couple of other things to try:

1) Try copying the file to the hard drive once it is on the PC. Some thinkgs just dont work directly from Read only media. I notice this is a little more common in Windows then on Macs.

2) If the file is small enough try burning a ISO-9660 CD

I copied the file from the DVD to the hard disk - I got the same problem.

I tried the ISO-9660 and that did not help either.

I have not tried the UDF suggestion yet. I will try that tomorrow.

Thank you for your responses.
