Video Capture Format

geneaber

Question

When I capture video from my DV camcorder using avi and then burn to dvd, the resulting output is choppy. However, when I capture as mpeg-2 and burn it is fine. If all I intend to do is burn dvds with the video do I need to worry about figuring out why the avi capture is causing problems? Will avi capture result in a better picture when burned to the dvd?

Any help is appreciated.

Not much information to go on.

What program from C2009 are you using to burn the DVD? Hopefully its myDVD. What quality setting are you using when burning the DVD, HQ will give the best quality.

How long in time is the captured video? a 4.7GB DVD will only hold 60 minutes of video at best quality, any longer and video gets compressed and you lose quality.

avi captured video is the best quality.

Your computer specs too, like Walt and I have in our signature.

How do you capture?

How much HDD space is free?

I capture using Media Creator 9 and burn with myDvd. There is over 100 gig available on the USB hard drive I use. How do I quickly pull my specs? Thanks.

Understood, but does it matter if I am then simply burning it to DVD? The input is about 29 minutes long. I am using myDVD. Thanks.

What version are you running? You are posting in the Roxio Creator 2009 forums but say you have Media Creator 9. Those are two completely different version about 2 years apart.

What settings are you using when burning the DVD? Are you doing any editing on your captured video?

Use the Device Manager/Hardware to list some of the system specs: CPU, CD/DVD burner, graphics, etc
