Trying to Install Roxio Easy VHS to DVD

craig2

Question

I have Vista sp2 64bit. I am up to date with all updates. I have gone to msconfig to stop all programs, and done the clean of Registry files. The windows installer clean up program was no need because the program did not install for it to recognize it. There was nothing in the installer clean that refered to Roxio or sonic. I made sure all programs were off during install and it still rolls back. I did go to Event Viewer and look at the logs and found this; Source MsiInstaller, Product: Roxio Easy VHS to DVD--Error 1904. Module C:Windows\Downloaded Program Files\dwusplay.dll failed to register. This is a CD install package I got from Office Depot. Most all the files on the CD are dated 2008. I feel like my version of Vista is more up to date than the software. Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks Jim, I did follow the sheet completely cleaning out files, registry, etc. By the way, The hotfix didn't work either because the file was not there to rename or delete. Spending $25.00 for mininum talk time is not my way of customer support. Now I know why I got a $50.00 rebate offer for a program that cost $49.99!

I just installed it on a 3rd PC yesterday without a glitch… As I said, I know what the Hotfix was intended to do and suspected that it will not work with this product.

There is no charge for install problems, the charge is just there as a warning and you will never be charged unless you verbally agree to it.

V2D is essentially the Creator 2009 w/o any extras. There is a HotFix for that but a couple other things are troubling me in your post…

The MS Uninstall is not the end all of the Clean Install process. You have go through your HDD as indicated to remove files manually. Also clearing your browser history.

We recommend you Print the Clean Install out and follow it line for line, skipping nothing and adding nothing.

If the HotFix doesn’t work, you need to call Roxio and go One on One with a tech! HotFix Link

So am I correct in believing that Easy VHD 2 DVD will work on a Vista 64 bit OS? Also, you say that this is essentially this program is a part of the Roxio Easy Media Suite...in which I have version 10..., but I assume that I would still need the dongle to connect my VCR correct? Also is there a place to just buy a dongle to work with this? I know I am asking many questions here, but I want to ensure the dongle and software I use will work properly in Vista 64 bit OS.
