Skipping video

mighty99

Question

I am using the capture feature to get my old vhs-c videos onton dvd. I seem to have a problem when i capture a video that has been recorded on one of the longer settings of the camcorder. The tapes that were originaly recorded on top quality(30 min.) capture great. The videos that were set for less quality, longer recording times, 60 min, 90 min skip audio and video when captured. Is there anyting I can do to fix this?

Thanks,

Mike

I though it only fair to report my results, seeing as you took the time to try and help me out. I do have XP. I will try Windows Movie Maker. I didn't even know i had that. I will try to back up a vhs-c tape to a regular vhs. If i can, i would be happy to send you one. I might even have a blank i can record using one of the longer format times. No risk sending a new one.

No luck with Movie Maker. Got thirty seconds in and the video froze. Great audio though. I'm gonna see if i have a blank vhs-c. I'll tape 90 minutes and send it off. I'll let you know if i come up with a blank, otherwise, like i said before, i will have to back up an old movie and send that. I love the ones i have been able to transfer. Having these old movies on dvd is awesome.

Thanks again for the help,

Mike

Then if 2 programs have trouble, we are not looking in the right place!

There is post, with pictures, of what the Device Manager will look like when the product is properly installed. – Here

Take a long hard look through those.

I looked at all of those. The only difference i see is i don't have a white and red coming from my camera. Just one video and one audio rca. I don't see why that would be a problem since playback is perfect until i hit capture.

I tried running it through a vcr. It did the same thing. I also tried to put the tape directly in the vcr. Same result. All three ways i have tried have done the same thing. When i preview the footage it plays fine. When i click on the capture button it starts to skip frames. The audio works fine.

Nuts! – it was worth a try and I think you are the only one who has ever come back and reported the results!!!

2 more idea… If you have XP on your PC you should try to capture the tape with Windows Movie Maker. Won’t work in Vista, MS took it out!

One other idea… If you have a tape you are willing to risk mailing to me, I would love to see this problem first hand as I have never been able to duplicate it. I will have to fish up a VHS-C adapter but I think I know a friend with one :D

i am using the rca cables that cam with the program hooked to the usb capture device.

Try using another device as a ‘pass through’. For example hook the camcorder up to a VCR and then connect the VCR to the Roxio USB device.

I am hoping this will act as an amplifier to the signal. But I have never tried it, so let us know if it works
