Easy VHS to DVD is not so easy! I have a new Dell Studio 1555 that was only 5 days old with Vista Premium Home Edition. No software was installed except the standard items for a new computer. Roxio Creator DE was installed.
I read the install instructions that said DO NOT install if you already have Roxio Creator 2009, Ultimate or Special Edition. Well, being a novice, I don't have one of these as I have a version called DE. I proceeded to make the install and everything went well. I was able to get feed from my on board camera as well as from a vcr VSH tape through the usb adapter. I could hear and see the video tape on the screen, great quality, but could not capture the video for the Plug n' Burn option. The capture button is greyed out. I did a lot of research on these blogs and then tried just using the capture feature.... still nothing.
I then decided that just maybe the Roxio DE version was the problem so I uninstalled it, uninstalled the Easy VHS to DVD and rebooted the computer. I then reinstalled the Easy VHS to DVD and came back to the same old problem. I was never able to capture the video.
I tried 4 different VHS tapes that are quite old but in very good condition and could not capture any of them. I spent about 6 1/2 hours with this nonsense and then sent a message to technical services. That was last night and at the close of business today, I have not received a response.
This program obviously has a problem. I read other postings that have the same issue. Has anyone gotten a response back as to how to make this program work?
Remember that this is a brand new computer with NO user software installed so what ever conflicts there are, are between Vista or the Roxio DE version that I uninstalled. You would think that a software manufacturer would be smart enough to go out and check for conflicting software installations before completing the installation, but Roxio does not do this.
So, what is the problem? Is it fixable? If it is the Roxio DE that caused the problem, why was that not corrected when the program was uninstall using the Windows uninstaller? Is this just another example of poor software design that is costing buyers hundreds of man hours in attempting to get a badly designed software operating?
Well, I just got a response from MSawyer.
Thank you for contacting Roxio Customer Care
Please contact the manufacturer of the computer for support with OEM products.
After all of this, I just got blown off. Easy VHS to DVD is not an OEM product. I purchased it at Best Buy!!!
What a waste of time. Next is how do I get a refund for their incompetence!
