buckthorn
To start with I've read & tried: Installing Easy Vhs To Dvd On Vista Home Premium 32 Sp1 &Clean install instructions for Creator 2009 on Windows Vista (As applied to Easy VhsToDvd ). I tried this exactly several times & then added some steps to further disable any security program that might possibly interfere. I started with Vista Home Premium 32 SP1 when this did not work I updated to SP2.This did not allow the installation either. This is where the problems are: First even with UP&P & SSPD discovery disabled the hardware still detects & installs the two drivers for the Roxio Video Capture USB & USB 2861 device automatically. The hardware wizard doesn't give an option to stop the install. There is no way to stop this I even tried with task manager /Applications /end task. What I ended up doing was letting them install & then uninstalling them from Device Manager. The install gets to the "Installing Roxio Easy VHS to DVD" part of the install. It tries for a while even putting most or maybe all of the folders & files in Program Files. Then it gives a Rollback message & removes all the folders & files from Program Files but one folder with one file. I didn't take note of the names but will if I try another install.Right now my OS has been through the clean again. Let me add I rarely have a problem installing any software so I'm not a newb at it. I suspect the problem is a conflict with some other software I have installed. I don't have any other known Roxio programs but I would like a list of other companies software that uses the Roxio burning engine that might conflict .If such a list is available. I'm hardly going to uninstall all my software one by one just to get one software to install. The box said "Certified for Windows Vista" so I expected a simple no problem install. So what do you suggest ? No I haven't called Roxio tech support . I have looked in this forum & many Vista users are having the same or similar problem. I even tried the update DL but without the program installed it wouldn't work. If there is a new DL of the complete disc that is supposed to work I would be interested in that.Espesially since I now have Vista SP2 installed. Jim_Hardin
Thanks for all that info in your first post. I have installed this on Vista with SP2 and it went off with out problems like you are seeing. I hope we can get this running but a couple of things are puzzling. I know of no setting that will allow any Windows OS to install drivers w/o asking! I think what has happened there is that you have the driver installed and you are just seeing notification that it recognizes the device??? Look through cdanteek’s pictures at the top and compare them to your system with the device plugged in and without it. If you are actually following the Clean Install to the letter, all those Services would have already been disabled since that is part of the procedure??? There is a Hotfix for the Vista Rollback problem for 2009 and it should work in V2D. You do the Hotfix then run the install – Here You can give that a try. There is nothing else new with this program or its’ install. Are you in a position you could get a refund?
buckthorn
Let's see if I can answer your questions. With some hunting down the driver files & moving them to another folder I managed to get the Roxio Video Capture USB not to even ask to be installed. Aparrently Vista has a driver for the USB 2861 Device but I did get it to ask.See the image below because even though I selected " Ask me later" Vista still installed one in Device Manager under "Sound, video and game controlers. The one under "Other devices" is the one that didn't install. This is shown in another image the Driver Software Installation one. My picture now has only the USB 2861 Device at this point. If I start the install again it will also have the Roxio Video Capture USB again. That will remain until I move some of its drivers as before. Now to the clean install instructions: The msconfig doesn't disable Windows Firewall,Lavasoft adaware, spybots&d,only half of AVG these must be disabled in Services. Also diskkeeper defrager .Another anti spyware SpywareBlaster is not even disabled by Services it must be diasbled with in its own GUI. I can't say if UP&P & SSPD discovery would normally be in the msconfig start up as I usually keep them set to manual in services. There is no dsetup.dll in my C: drive -> Windows folder -> System32 folder. So the hotfix is out. If read carefully it says it is for when the DirectX 9 portions of Creator 2009, the installation halts, rolls back, then gives an error that the install has been interrupted and cannot be completed.During the install the DirectX 9 completes. As for getting a refund that is not what I'm after & will only do that as a last resort. Before I do that I will see if I can find other software & drivers that are compatable with this capture card even if not Roxio. That does however take away a good bit of the value. As I posted it is probably a conflict with some other software I have installed if I just knew which one Roxio was conflicting with. Such as DVDFab6 to name one. I didn't realize this forum didn't upload images. So to anyone veiwing they will be temporary as the only way I see to post them is with an image service. Jim_Hardin
There is no known conflict with any other software package and this product has been out for almost a year now… There is a real concern with all that AV & Spyware junk that is running! That stuff must be turned off during install. You are confusing Recognition with Installing. Of course Vista and XP will recognized the USB 2861 device and show it in the Device Manager but they do not automatically install the Driver. When the Driver is installed those entries will change! There will be none in Other Devices and 2 entries in Sound, video and games controllers… Suggestion – stop those programs! Then start in Safe Mode. Run HotFix – Clean Install. Pay close attention to what happens during install (make notes). Nice screen caps by the way
buckthorn
There is a real concern with all that AV & Spyware junk that is running! That stuff must be turned off during install. I assure you they are installed in a way they do not conflict with each other or other software I have installed. I've never had a virus detected on this machine or had any spyware get through.Even the online virus scans I've tried find nothing such as the Kaspersky one. As I posted I disabled or turned off all of them to try this install. This is the first software I've tried to install where this level of disabling the AV ,firewall,& Antispyware has been necessary. With all that the installation still fails. You are confusing Recognition with Installing. Of course Vista and XP will recognized the USB 2861 device and show it in the Device Manager but they do not automatically install the Driver In the screen shots above that was with the cancellation of the New hardware Wizard as per cdanteek's pinned instructions. Once the install is started & then rollsback both devices are in the Sound, video and games controllers. They are these two :Roxio Video Capture USB & USB 2861 device . Both report that " This device is working properly" when their Properties are checked in Device Manager. Then start in Safe Mode. Run HotFix – Clean Install. Pay close attention to what happens during install (make notes). I tried in safe mode doing the Clean Install & the instructions from cdanteek's pinned instructions. I got this error :" Setup encountered an error during installation. Error Code: 0641 " With that the installation shutdown. The Hot Fix doesn't apply because I have no dsetup.dll in my C: drive -> Windows folder -> System32 folder. So in effect it is deleted. There is no known conflict with any other software package and this product has been out for almost a year now From reading posts there is a conflict with Creator 2009 & Easy Vhs To Dvd being installed at the same time.Unless I misread something. Although I do not have any other Roxio software that I know of.I still suspect some other DVD burning software I have uses something from Roxio or Sonic.Probably the same that is in Easy Vhs To Dvd or Creator 2009 .If I just knew which one. That is where I think the problem is .I could be wrong but I have done my best to follow all installation instructions. Like I said this is the first software I haven't been able to install ever. Jim_Hardin
You are proclaiming all of your assurances that everything is ‘perfect’ on your PC, yet here you are unable to install a simple program… You are fixated on your conflict conclusion even though it is incorrect. The install procedure I outlined is the only one that has a chance of working… That or formatting you HDD and leaving off all that other stuff. If you are not willing to step back and try suggestions there is nothing else I can offer you.
buckthorn
Let me say to others reading this post.I made a good effort to follow the suggestions made. I did the Clean Install followed by the pinned method several times even in Safe mode. I made sure the antivirus & antispyware programs were disabled. So none of them were interfering with the install. I didn't uninstall any of them & don't intend to. I will give this advice to others anytime it is suggested that you need to format your HDD to install one software that is not installing for you.Think long & hard before you do that.It is usually bad advice & there is no guarentee it work. When someone starts refering to your antivirus & anti spyware as junk take that as a warning. You are proclaiming all of your assurances that everything is ‘perfect’ on your PC, yet here you are unable to install a simple program… I didn't post everything on my PC is "perfect" only that everything is working well except for the Roxio Easy Vhs To Dvd install. So to give an example & I didn't have to do anything like the "Clean Install" method for these .This is just some of the Video software I have installed on my PC.I'm leaving out some of the editing ones to make the list not too long. All do the job they are intended for. BurnAware Home Edition Aplus DVD Ripper DVD Flick DVD Shrink DVDFab5 DVDFab6 CloneDVD2 AnyDVD VideoGet YouTube Downloader DivxToDVD ImgBurn Wondershare DVDRipper Platinium Ultimate CD/DVD Burner 3. I guess these weren't "simple" programs because they installed when the so called "simple" Roxio Easy Vhs To Dvd doesn't. If Roxio Easy Vhs To Dvd was a "simple " easy to install program you wouldn't see so many topics on this forum & other forums where people are having problem installing it. I have a friend that has some software for a couple of his old capture cards I'm going to try .Maybe they will actually install.
