Those seem like odd choices to me. the mpeg one should be the best choice, provided it's mpeg2 not mpeg1.

How do you have the camera connected to your pc, and which part of Creator 2009 are you trying to use to capture with?

I am using the video capture function on creator and I have tried with the camera connected with a USB and also with the mini DVD in the computer drive.

Ah, that's a camcorder that records to mini DVD discs.

In that case, do not hook it up thru the USB for capturing. You'll get very low quality results.

First you'll need to use the camcorder to 'Finalize' the disc.

Put the disc into your dvd drive on the pc. Then you can get the video to your hard drive in one of two ways.

First, you can use the capture software to capture from the disc to file(s). You would want to use the mpeg highest quality format to capture in.

Or, you should be able to copy the VIDEO_TS folder from the disc to a folder on your hard drive. You can then just add the .vob files directly into VideoWave or MyDVD for editing etc...

Whew . . . . "Let me count the ways. . ."

MPEG is uncompressed video, the stuff of DVDs. You can cram one or two hours of it onto a DVD, depending on the resolution.

WMV is video prepared for the Windows Media Player

DivX is typically video compressed with the DivX codec, and presented in an AVI container file for playing on computers or an increasing number of DivX certified DVD players. You can get a good definition 90-minute movie in a 700 MB DivX AVI.

Is there a benefit to capturing the video in one format or the other? I plan to leave the movies on my computer for the most part, but in some cases I would like to take parts of the movies and make a new version with a variety of movie clips. I would then take these created movies and put them on a DVD to give to family and friends.

Thank you for the help.

Your best option is to capture to DV avi - this is the least compressed video and easiest for use in editing. Unfortunately it does create huge files and you will require lots of hard drive space. About 60 minutes of video when captured to DV avi will create files about 14GB in size

Is DV avi the same as DIVX?

The only options I have when captruing the video into Roxio Creator 2009 are MPEG, DIVX, and WMV. In that case, which one would be the preferred upload format?
