Label Creator Printing Problem

roperdan

Question

I have used EMC 7, then 7.5, then 8, then 9 and now I have upgraded to Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate. Use of these products has been bitter sweet. There are aspects of these programs that are very nice but as I'm sure we all know, these programs have tons of bugs and cause many system crashes. Each time I upgrade I hope (expect) that some of the bugs and system crashes will have been fixed. However, much to my dismay this does not seem to be the case. The first program I opened after installing Roxio Creator 2009 was the disc copier and it crashed. The next program was the label creator and I find that this program CONTINUES to actually get WORSE with each progressive "upgrade."

Ever since version 7 if I print a label on CD Stomper paper the next time I try to print the program changes the paper type in my print driver to A4 paper (from letter). This means that if I forget to open the print dialog box and change it back I waste a page of labels. This has been a known problem dating back to at least version 7, but has there been any effort to fix it? NO.

Next, scanning images into label creator... In version 7 and 7.5 you could scan an image directly into the label and save the label without having to separately save the image file. That little bonus was removed in version 8 never to be seen again.

Now to my biggest disappointment. The program has NEVER been able to correctly print to CD Stomper labels without manually setting up printer adjustments to correctly align the labels to the printed image. In the latest and "greatest" version (2009) you can no longer do this making the program USELESS for printing labels. Sure there is a "Preference" button on the print menu, and if you click it it shows you "fine tuning" radio buttons and adjustments. However, THEY DO NOT DO ANYTHING! I can make adjustments to my hearts content and the image still prints in the exact same position on the paper each time. When I reopen the Preferences tab the "fine tuning" radio button is UNCHECKED. I check it, close the dialog box then open it again and sure enough it is unchecked again. This program is USELESS to me. At least in versions 7-9 it would remember my adjustments and they would work.

Roxio, I'm sorry but our relationship is OVER!

Seems to me that your printer options should have a setting where you can select the option to print to a certain size and keep that setting, rather than the default settings.

Frank...

Correct. I do set up default print preferences for all my printers including the default paper size of "letter". This remians the default setting for all windows programs that print EXCEPT Roxio Label Creator. It works with the default size on the first print then somehow Roxio seems to change the paper size on the print diagloge box to A4 after each print. This is NOT specific to a particular print driver. I have experienced this problem on 4 different computers and on a total of 7 different printers (all HP printers). Label Creator has done this actually since version 6 through their current version of 2009.

You're talking to the forums, not Roxio.

Yeah, I know... I got the flame out a bit didn't I? Sorry.

It's Saturday and Roxio has no free technical support on the weekend even for people who purchased their software within the last 90 days. (I did try to vent to them first!)

No need to be sorry for getting the flame out. The software should work correctly EVERY time that you use it, not just on the first go-around..

GPB is correct, it should work every time !!---After you set the printer options to what you want, there should also be a setting to make that the default setting. Every printer I have ever had (HP, Epson etc.) have all had that option.

It isn’t as though you are constantly changing Printers between sessions

Most I ever had (printers) installed was 7 at one time but that was over a network and none actually attached to my PC!

I see a Bug report has been generated about this...
