interrupted install creator 2009

hede1975

Question

I have microsoft windows XP, media center edition, Version 2002, service pack 3. AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 3700+, 2.21 Ghz, 2 GB RAM. Im trying to install roxio creator 2009, without success. It begins installing through microsoft.net v3.5, directx 9 runtime, and through smartsound, than it gets to something that begins with run..... not sure what it is exactly it goes too fast.......than i get an error message saying my installation has been interupted....my system is unchanged....start installation later if i want to install it later.

I bought the program in the usa....and im trying to install it on a pc in norway. I have installed other programs bought in the usa without any problems. I have tried to look for the dsetup.dll in system 32.....but it is not there. I am not a experienced pc user, so im afraid to try that clean install that is all over the forums. I am terrified of ruining my pc, by editing my system registery. I have spent 2 days looking through the forums for answers, but im at a loss. I dont know how to fix this. Please help. Cant dial toll free numbers from norway.

“dsetup.dll” is fairly common… I have one on newly formatted PC that never has had any Roxio program installed. Another PC, with Roxio has that dll under Sony Setup for Sony Vegas. Two others (XP & Vista) that don’t have on one of them on their HDD’s.

I am guessing the one referred to in the KB here is one that they know gets written and is normally deleted at the end of Setup. If left behind during a interrupted Setup, it wrecks havoc with new attempts.

The one you found must belong to another program – but you could delete it to the Recycle bin and give it a try???

There is no known conflict with other programs that we have ever heard of.

At this point I am stumped! This did happen to me once and I ended up reformatting the HDD (twice!) before it worked. A week or so later that HDD failed so that could have been my problem.

Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from the website below:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;290301

This will remove any Roxio or Sonic applications that are on the computer. Once it's done, go back to the Microsoft website and install all the .NET Framework's you uninstalled (don't know why you did that - you shouldn't have). Download all of them EXCEPT .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

Install the software and see if you can continue. If you get the software installed, IMMEDIATELY download and install Service Pack 4.

"Windows Installer Cleanup Utility" will not remove the Roxio or Sonic applications from your computer. All it does is " remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over"

Maybe this helps....i tried installing it again and watched it really closely to see exactly where it stops....the last thing was Roll back DirectX9 Runtime. Any ideas? Thankyou

Didnt work to delete the dgsetup.dll.....

As part of the Clean Install you should be deleting the DirectX 9. You are doing that aren't you?

I have called on some friends for help with this.

If you read the thread they are using the Clean Install process and the MS Cleanup is part of that process…

It is a sound and through process…

One thing that should be mentioned is to make sure your Explorer is set to Show Hidden files and folders. View – Folder Options – View tab

As far as your problem with copy…

Check the disc for anything that could disrupt the optical process…

Reboot the PC.

If you have another drive, use that one to copy.

Break the task up. Copy 1/3 of the folders at a time.

Ok---did the clean install today....the only things i found to be deleted was the smartsound, when i did the windows installer clean up..................and one sonic folder when i was in the registry.................i couldnt find no directx install service or directx 9. Could it be called DivX networks ? I took my time doing it, and looked over the lists where they could be several times. I followed the clean install instructions very carefully. I tried the install of creator 2009 after, and it interupted again in the same place. Anyone frustrated yet? Thanks again for tryin to help me out.

So i have been trying to copy the contents of my disc onto my computer, and my computer reset 3 times before i got sick of it and i shut it off for awhile. To my suprise when i turned it back on.....BLUE SCREEN ERROR!!!! So i quickly deleted what i had installed from the disc....because that was when it started reseting on its own.. So i guess im done with trying to get this installed. Spent 2000 dollars on this pc.....not worth ruining it. Thanks everyone for trying to help.

Not to be too blunt, but it appears your PC is the problem…

If it can’t copy a disc without restarting and going to BSD’s it ain’t Roxio :D Even a ‘bad disc’ will not cause that but simply throw a Read error.

When I hit a wall like this, I get a new HDD and replace the one in the PC. Install the OS w/Format – drivers – then Roxio.

When all is working, I then add the old drive as a secondary and copy the files I need to the new one. You would be amazed how many things that will fix.

Give it a thought, worst thing that will happen is you get a new HDD.

Opps

Jess and I were having a sidebar about this because there are 2 completely different suggestions in there by users and both claim they are the right one!!!

I would remove .NET 3.5 SP1 and try it.

Set a Restore Point before you do! That way you can restore it.

Earlier versions of .NET have nothing to do with it.

ok....well.....i unistalled all the .net packs except for 1.1 and the hotfix 1.1.....disabled my antivirus and firewall and windows updater......and than tried to install again......i got to runtime for the second time i believe before the installation stopped and gave the same message. The software did install all the .net Framework service packs again....all the way up to and including the .net framework 3.5 pack.

i have looked through my programs seeing if any are sonic or roxio....cant find any....I have a powerproducer installed....and powerdvd and powerbackup that came with the computer.......dont know if those are interfering or not. Any ideas of names of programs that could be interfering with the installation?

Thanks for the help, but sorry...nothing has worked yet.

I found a file called dgsetup.dll.....in windows32....could that be the file im looking for?
