Boy! Do I need help!

Question

Hi! I'm a teacher who has made a photoshow for my kids every year for about 5 years.

I've been taking pictures all year, and have worked hours & hours on the latest show which I need by Friday (last day of school).

Many of those hours have been spent coping with problems I've never had before with the photoshow 5 program. For one thing, for days, after I worked on the show for awhile, the frames would freeze but the music would keep playing during playback. Although customer service sent me a one line reply to "update my video card", which was not very helpful, the program worked great today, & I was to the point of putting finishing touches on my (long) show.

All of a sudden, several (more than ten) pictures were replaced by images of little white cameras. When I clicked on them (trying to at least delete them), I'd get a notice the program stopped working & would shut down.

When I tried to playback the show, it did play back one time in spite of the missing pictures. The missing pictures even showed-up in the show. Then, different pictures disappeared & were replaced by the camera image. Now, when I try to do anything, including playback the show, I get a message that photoshow can't process the images & will shut down. These are the same images that have been in the show from the very start, not new ones......

I've written to customer service, but based on their last brief reply, I'm not very optomistic. I'm hoping perhaps someone who knows way more than I do about this might offer some advise so that I can finish the show & have it for my kids before they leave my class on Friday. I can't even hope to resolve the problem over the summer & have the show for them in September, as they are all leaving the school to attend 3 different middle schools in the district. : (

If you've read this far, you're wonderful. Thank you so much.

If you can offer help.... I'm forever grateful!!!

Fingers crossed, here....

Do you still have the disc in storage or the download on your computer? Perhaps you can do a Windows restore on your computer to a date before you deleted he application.

At worst, you can go to the Roxio site and use the free version. You will be limited to 24 images but perhaps you can break the slide show into several key occasions.

Click here to get to the web site.. Here are the limitations for the basic account

Perhaps the parents will look at them and decide if they want a DVD of some of them before the 30 days are up. I'm sure that you can be creative! ;)

All good ideas.....Creative might mean a pizza party tomorrow to distract them from the missing pictures...lol. I've had parents in other schools who I could work with that way, but the kids in this school are mostly new to the country, and communication is more difficult.

But I'll tell you an upside to this, Steve. I've learned a lot. Your last suggestion about predating etc., really is interesting to me, & I'm going to find out how to do it. Your other suggestions taught me things, too. A question I asked a coworker at school led me to discover Windows Movie Maker. I didn't even know I had one. I won't have time to finish the "show", I don't think, but I'm going to play with it & learn the program. It doesn't look that different from photoshow! Who knew???? : ))) Using ideas you gave me, I found where the computer was keeping a folder of the edited pictures from the show...That's interesting to me!!!! There's all kinds of folders there I didn't know I had!

So thanks for the help! You beat customer service hands-down, & I enjoyed learning from you!!!! :)

I do not see a repair option in Windows Add/Remove Programs; that was going to be my first suggestion.

Are you using the on-line PhotoShow or a download version?

If download, there are several things. Have you moved or edited any of the photos since you started the project? The camera may mean that it cannot find the image or the image has changed. Are the images all the same format and about the same resolution?

Do some maintenance on your computer if that is not part of your monthly routine. Get rid of the junk files using CCleaner. Uncheck the option to delete the cookies and do not use the registry cleaner. After that is done, defrag your hard drive using Auslogics Defragger. How much free space on your hard drive?

When you try to make the PhotoShow, shut down everything else that you don't need running. Disconnect from the Internet and shut off your anti-virus and anti-malware.

At a last resort, you can try to delete PhotoShow and then reinstall it. If you do, the first option you'll see is to save edited photos, PhotoShow, etc.

Thank you, Steve!!!!! I'm on my way to work, but I'm so happy to see your suggestions. I'll follow your directions when I get home from work & let you know if I get lucky!!!!

I appreciate your help!!!!

Hi, Again, Steve... Just an update. I'll spare you the painful details, but after trying several of your suggestions, I uninstalled photoshow 5 (which was a download I paid for from the roxio/simplestar site...I've had it for years.)

I guess I should have made sure I knew how to reinstall it, but even after going on the site, I can't figure it out.

I think I give-up. I'll cut my losses and also just accept I can't have the show for the kids this year.

I rec'd a reply to my second email to customer service. In spite of the fact I included information including my license #, the rep responded with a long list of questions about my program. Nice way to put me off, I think. Too bad....Their customer service used to be terrific. I remember when my computer clashed a couple of years ago, I actually was able to talk to someone on the phone who helped me immensely. I think they've just become too big to help people like me who have limited technical knowledge.

Thanks for spending the time to try to help me!!!!
