DVD made with toast 10 only plays menus

NinjaKid

Question

I made a DVD last night and it will only seem to play the menus on the disk, when i try to start a video by clicking a button icon on the menu it doesn't play anything it just seems to sit there. I tried burning the disk again without menus and selected auto play but then the disk will start but will not play. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

I did save a image and mounted it and it does play fine, the DVD's all play fine on the mac as well, the problem happens on other players. For example I made DVD's on 2 different burners to rule out a bad burner and I also used 3 different media types 2 DVD and 1 DVD -DL all work good one my mac but on another Mac or DVD player the problems seems to happen where all you get is the menu and the selection option, you can click any of the menu's but the disk don't seem to play and the display will show a time frame of 0101 and just sit there. This is some very strange stuff also If i burn the DVD from Imovie it plays fine on all systems.

You have me stumped. If it is Toast that's the problem then all you can do is trash the Toast plist and prefs files in your user>Library>Preferences folder and also reinstall the Toast application. If that doesn't fix it then it is beyond me. Sorry I can't figure this one out.

This is could be hard to troubleshoot because there's no precedent for this problem. If the video is in fact on the DVD (and isn't just a black video) then I'd try a different brand of blank media.

Go back to your original project and choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button. When that is done mount the disc image file (one easy way to do that is to select it using the Image File setting in the Copy window) and watch the disc image using DVD Player. Is the problem still there or is it gone? If it is gone then a different brand of blank disc may solve the issue.
