Toast 9.0.5 Unexpecttedly quits

tringler

Question

I am running a Mac G4MDD 1.42 Dual with Mac OSX 10.4.11. When I try to burn a Mac Only DVD, encrypted, the application quits at the end of the burn, before Verification. The content size is 4.33GBs. The disk will mount and when opened the Disk Image file appears. However, when I try to open the Disk Image a dialog appears that says it is not recognized. I am burning an 8X Sony DVD-R disk at 4X. I have had only one successful burn out of 5, all at the same settings. The title of the successful burn was just "1998" and the Disk Image had the title "1998[1].dmg." The content size here was 3.31GBs The failed burns were titled "2006-2009_06 plus" and the disk image that appeared was titled "2006-2009_06.dmg. Don't know if the titling had anything to do with the failures or not but thought I would mention it. Also don't know why there was [1] in the successful burn. Would the content size have anything to do with the failures? Would appreciate any help I could get.

I just tried a test to burn using your settings and Toast 9 crashed as soon as it started to access the blank disc. So I didn't get as far as did you.

The only workaround I figured out that seems to be okay is to choose Save as Disc Image and then burn the resulting .dmg file as a Mac Only data file. You don't need to have encryption turned on for the latter burn because the disc image cannot be mounted without entering the password.

Thanks for your input. I still haven't figured out why only one of my 5 attempts succeeded. As I mentioned, the disk image on the failed burns could not be recognized when I tried to open it. However, I discovered a folder in my Documents folder called Roxio Converted Items. It had all of the disk images in it from all 5 burns and they all opened after I typed my password. Very puzzling. It is a shame to have to waste blank DVDs on a program that doesn't seem to work as noted in the ROXIO Manual when I could have made a disk image in the first place. I wonder if the ROXIO techies ever read these posts and then try to fix some of the many problems that are presented. I think I am going to try NERO. Will keep this post open in hopes that someone will provide a complete solution. Thanks again.
