VHS too long for DVD!

azengel

Question

I transfered my first VHS movie (Apollo 13), which was 2 1/2 hours long onto a dvd. Everything worked like a charm but the VHS filled a DVD disc before the movie's ending. Did I do something wrong or are all VHS movie too long? Is there a way to get the movie onto a disc?

A standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold 60 minutes of best quality video. You can squeeze up to 120 minutes on the DVD but the quality will be poor.

You are much better off first capturing to your hard drive and then splitting the video into 2 before burning.

An option I have found for the VHS that is to long for a 4.7G DVD, if you have a Dual Layer capable DVD burner is the TDK 8X, 8.5GB DVD+R DL.

it will hold 4 hours of movie at the SP setting.

There is an option in Roxio to select LP, EP, SP or HQ when burning. I think it is in MyDVD, but the same issue for a DVD as the old VHS tape, the video quality goes way down using EP or LP
