Setup for better performance

Question

New user am I. My project has about 1600 photos to be put on a dvd slideshow. I broke up the photos in different folders based on subject. Pulled them all in ready to make slide show and burn to dvd and everything froze on me. I check the system requirements, and I have whats needed. Can I split the work files, or space that roxio needs off to a different drive? Secondly, can I just pull in the folders instead of each individual folder?

Help, help... time is a wasting on this project. :angry2:

I don't know what program from the Creator 2009 suite you are using to make you slideshow. Don't use any of the Wizards, they lack many features and restrict you in what you can do. The program to use is Videowave.

BTW, the system requirements as stated by Roxio are almost a joke.

Also forget about trying to create a slideshow containing 1600 pictures. Basically you will be creating a movie not the usual slideshows where you can forward or backward. Since a standard 4.7GB DVD can only hold about 60 minutes of video that would mean you would see each photo for about 2.25 seconds each for the 1600 photos.

I would create 3 different slideshows with >500 photos each and put each show on a separate DVD.

Of course if you don't want a "movie slideshow" then you can simply copy the photos to a DVD as data. Some DVD players can run "slideshows" from these photos but not all. Of course here you cannot add any music, effects, etc.

The first thing that has to be considered is the amount of time your project entails. You can get about 1 hour of good quality video on a single sided disc; less that 2 hours at almost and unwatchable quality; double that for DL discs. Thats is about 2 to 4 seconds per image. Many people would not be able to watch and recognize what is going on in 2 second increments for an hour. You may want to break those up into several slide shows to put onto several discs. You can break them up into Titles (movies) and put several movies on one disc and you can select other Titles to put on a second disc. If you are burning to Blu-ray, then the blu-ray disc holds more but everyone that you want to watch the videos must have a BluRay player. Of course, you must have a blu-ray burner.

Nest, I'm not sure what application you are using since you are talking about folders. The application to use is Video Wave and you should be pulling in images. The images can be anywhere on your computer but it is best if they are all within one major folder rather than scattered all over several drives. You can pull in the images from a folder using the Windows command to "select all". Once those are in, you can rearrange them.

Please post back to let us know what you have decided to do so we can offer more help.

Sorry Walt; we posted at the same time.
