Capture Quality

MCC63

Question

I record video on a Cannon HFS100 at the highest quality (24 mbps). When I capture the video into Roxio, I think the quality gets degraded because when I play the same captured video in Roxio it shows it playing at 16 mbps. Is there anyway to capture video losslessly? I would hate to lose quality when it is burned to Blu Ray.

How did you determine it was playing at 16mbps? The preview in Videowave and MyDVD LOW resolution for a reason. Most computers just aren't capable of hidef playback plus the low rez PREVIEW helps make editing faster. This is only a PREVIEW and has no affect on the final output.

When I preview the movie in myDVD (I imported the movie from VideoWave, where I captured it from my camcorder) in the preview pane it provides various statistics regarding the movie, including the video and audio.

For video is shows:

1920x1080, Progressive, 16 Mb/s

For audio it shows:

Dolby Digital AC3, 384 kb/s

The fact that the statistics shows 16 Mb/s regarding the video leads me to beleove that the video originally recorded at 24 Mb/s has been degraded to 16 Mb/s during the capture or one of the other processes. I should mention that I only captured the video in VideoWave. I did not do any editing of the video.

What do you think?

I think that you should download gspot and drag the file to it; it will be a better indication of what you really have.

When you did the capture, what settings did you use?

There aren't any options in the media import window to change the quality of the video being imported.

That said, I took your suggestion and downloaded gspot. I opened several of the videos I imported and while there are many fields in the program I do not understand, it does show the videos at 24262 kbps, so I assume they are truly imported at 24 mbps.

I guess I should trust Gspot's statisitcs over Roxio?

Thanks for your help. You are quite knowledgable.
