How toEdit the Audio portion of my video I recorded.

Paul Marshall

Question

HI,I have the Roxio Creator™ 2009 Ultimate system and have read the manual, help guide, forum post and even spoken with Roxio support. Before I purchased the Roxio Creator™ 2009 Ultimate system, I spoke with the Sales Dept about my desire to edit the audio portion of a video I recorded. There are several audio errors of which I was told I could just edit over with my corrected word/phrase. I have attempted this task, and I am not able to accomplish my goal. EX: The audio could say, " Hi, My name is XXXXX", and I want to edit the audio to say, "Hi, My name is YYYYY. Any advise is truly appreciated, as I have several videos to make audio corrections before I post them on YouTube. Thanks in advance for your expertise!Paul

You don't need to underline your post. I only use underline to call attention to a word or expression in my post.

Anyway, back to your issue. One way I can think of is as follows:

1) Open Videowave and bring in a video.

2) Go to Timeline view. Press the Show/Hide Tracks. Put a check mark beside Native and Music. Press Ok.

3) Determine the segment where you want to correct the audio. Determine the length of time of that segment and mute that segment only in the Native audio track using the envelop method.

4) Save the Videowave production and close Videowave.

5) Record the correct audio and save the file in a format supported by Creator 2009 (e.g., mp3, wav). The length of recorded time should be about the same as the length determined in step 3.

6) Open again the Videowave production you saved in step 4

7) Open the Media Selector, and browse to the directory where you saved the audio file in step 5

8) Select the audio file and drag it to the Music track, and place it directly below the muted video segment from step 3

9) Preview the edited production and make adjustment (say the volume of the audio file) as necessary.

Let us know how you make out with this.

PS: There is also Narration functionality in Videowave. I haven't tried it but maybe you can explore this to overlay the audio of the video segment in question.

First off, get rid of all the underlined text. We can see what you are writing without it :D

If you have some personal video and want to edit it, open up the "Videowave" program and add it to the "Timeline" mode. There you can edit to your hearts content. However, if you edit out the "Myname is XXXXX", of the original audio in the video, you will need a mic and in the same program add your own audio as a "narration" (option in the program) Then you can add that new narration ahead of the old portion you edited out and add your new "My Name is YYYYY" that you added as a narration.

Open VideoWave, bring in the video clip that you want to change a portion of the audio. Click on the Timeline tab, then on your movie. Move the cursor to the point where the audio you want to mute is, right click on the vertical line, and select Split. Now, move to the end of the portion that you want to mute the sound, and split there, too.

Now, click on the portion of the movie, that is between the splits, to highlight it. Right click on it, select Edit/Native Audio. In the screen that comes up, move the slider, for the Overall Volume, all the way to the left. Then, click ok. The audio, for that portion of the movie should now be muted.

Now, click on the Show/Hide tracks button, and put a check in the Narration (Nar) box, and click OK.

Move the cursor to the beginning point of where you want the new audio, click on the Add Narration icon (microphone), and record your message. You may have to slide it, back or forward, along the narration track to get it to fit properly.

There is another way to accomplish this, but try what I suggested, first.

If you need a visual aide you can watch this but the ability to make the volume changes in the timeline are now gone. Grandpabruce's way is probably best

Here is also an example of narration.

Note that splitting the original to make the audio corrections does not change the originl video file so you can undo as many times as you want or you can just start from scratch.

If you clicked on the words that were underlined, it was a shortcut to open your e-mail, to send him an e-mail message. His e-mail address was within.
