PAL to NTSC issues

ravedog

Question

I have read other forum posts about converting PAL to NTSC but I'm still having issues. I have a PAL VIDEO_TS folder that I drag into Toast's VIDEO_TS window, and I have my preferences set to NTSC. However, when I click "BURN" button, it does not ask me if I want to convert to my desired NTSC. I just burns it as PAL.

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

Right. You need a different approach in which Toast authors a new video DVD. There are two ways to do this. One is to place the VIDEO_TS folder on the desktop and choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. (There are ways for the Media Browser to find the VIDEO_TS folder other than putting it on the desktop, but this is the easiest way to do it). Choose DVD video as the format in the Toast Video window. Double click what appears in the Media Browser and drag the titles you want to the main video window. Toast then extracts the mpeg video files from the VIDEO_TS folder. After you set up the menu the way you want click the burn button or choose Save as Disc Image. If you also want to have this video compressed from DL size to SL media then choose Save as Disc Image and the additional compression will occur when you burn the DVD using the Image File setting in the Copy window.

The other way to do it (but sometimes this doesn't work) is to choose DVD video as the format in the Video window and drag the VIDEO_TS folder to the video window. Toast should identify the different titles without needing to extract the video files from the VIDEO_TS folder. This is faster when it works, but I've never tried it when needing to convert the format.

I tried both your suggestions.... each worked. Thank you. However, the outcome was not pretty. No matter what I did, the produced product (whether as a TOAST image mounted on the desktop and played in apple's DVD Player or burned to a disc and played in an external player), had horrible skipping problems.

During playback, it would constantly jump forward anywhere from several frames to a second, and this happened randomly. (The original played perfectly). This happened throughout the entire show.

I'm stumped.

That isn't normal and I don't know why it happened. I wish I could help but I too am stumped.
