Big_Dave
Key rule: Never keep your critical data in one location. If you are going to reformat the hard drive or erase or move your critical data, keep duplicate copies. It wouldn't be the first time when backup data was bad. Should you decide to keep an image of your hard drive for recovery purposes then a flash drive probably is not going to be large enough. You could build your own external USB drive (buy the enclosure and then a drive). 7200 rpm drives are going down in price but the 5400 rpm drives are still a bit cheaper. Some say optical media will last ten years but I wouldn't count on it. For disaster recovery purposes, keep your critical data in two different locations in case of a fire, flood, theft, etc.. Keep your highly sensitive data encrypted! Bottom line: It's price verses performance

Big_Dave
Does your system have an external expansion port jack? Some PCs such as laptops have them and some may not. You have to do some research to find an external storage device that has multiple connectors. Perhaps a gigabit equipped network attached storaged (NAS) device will fit your needs. According to my motherboard manual there are 2 External SATA 3.0 Gb/s Port (sata on the go ) .does it mean, i can attach a external sata drive with or w/o sata docking system ? Big_Dave
I would say yes you can attached an external sata drive. If you buy an external sata drive, be sure you get a cable.

Big_Dave
Sammy, Check your PC and be sure it has a gigabit ethernet adapter. Many of the new adapters are rated 10/100/1000 megabits per sec.
