No Sound

Drew-1664

Question

I find 'Roxio' to be the biggest pain in the butt, I've ever used (which isn't saying much 'cause I'm new at this) . And I don't even know if this is going to work or how to use it.

#1. I'm getting msg. saying "click the Filter for Media types Button", there are no files in this folder that match the filter type settings. What 'Button' ? I've looked ALL over the place and can't find any 'Media types Button'. It's just old home movies on VHS from '87, plays audio on computer just fine, but won't come out on DVD.

#2. 'EASY VHS to DVD' cassette sound is going in, but also NOT coming out. I've already converted lots of other VHS tapes with few problems (but those problems have all been with sound ,or lack of). Even old TV shows on the same VHS tape, 9 of 10 work fine, 1 has no sound ?????? And yes, my volumes up /on whatever and I've done everything Roxio

'SUPPORT' (and I use that term reluctantly 'cause their NOT much 'support' and VERY hard to contact) has suggested, to no avail.

ANY SIMPLE suggestions, other than using 'Roxio' for target practice ?

1) That should say the down arrow to change the file types.

2) Sorry, I haven't used Easy VHS to DVD"; I'm moving this post to the appropriate forum.

XP, Vista, or W7RC? Do you have a sound card or audio chip? If XP go into dxdiag, clcik the sound (audio) tab and move the slider all the way to the left. Try again.

#1) Of course you have to be in a folder that contains some media files

#2) you will have to explain a bit more. You say you have converted 9 of 10 tapes without problem. That shows that the program is working correctly and the problem is with the tape.

Steve + myguggi, I'm using Vista 'til Win. 7. Video's GeForce 8600GTS, sound' s Realtek HD, both 'updated' to latest as is everything thing else, got about 2 1/2 TB's memory. I'm not SO concerned about the VHS as the AUDIO CASSETTES trying to digitilize through 'Easy VHS to DVD'. I've tried everything from HP, Roxio, Realtek, EVGA, Windows and anything else I can think of, and they all send me somewhere else to solve problem, none of which do. I KNOW the sound is in the file, 'cause WMP shows it playing with all the 'squiggly' lines moving around like a 'light organ' to the music, but with ALL volumes up, I still can't hear a peep. I know it's coming out of player 'cause I can hear it on headphones, but I can't 'monitor', 'edit', or do any 'converting' 'cause I can't hear anything from computer. HP model M8200N, Vista Home Premium, AMD Anthlon 64x2 dual core, processor 6000+, 32-bit, 3.00GB RAM, 'DirectX' says "no problems found". It's a sound card ( I think!)

I don't know what else I can tell you. Thanks for your help, Drew

I'm gonna say that the reason you hear nothing is because of the Realtek chipset and Vista.

There have been many posts on these boards about that chipset and the headache it is to get it to work if you can at all.

The problem with monitoring the sound has to do with inputs and outputs available from that chipset along with the way that Vista handles sound.

Tell us what application in Easy VHS to DVD you are using to copy your cassettes?

Then tell us HOW you are hooked up to your cassette player....be specific?

DG, I'm using "Digitize LPs and Tapes" and have tried both under "Home" and under "Music-Audio" " Convert your LPs & Tapes to Digital Format " in"Roxio LP and Tape Assistant".

I have connected to SONY MHC-BX3 mini Hi-Fi Component System via RCA plugs to Roxio Video Capture USB in front and/or rear USB plugs of HP Pavilion Media Center model M8200N via 'headphone' mini-plug jack, and to Roxio USB via speaker L/R output of Sony ( I cut off RCA ends, on one end, stripped wire from both in and out L & R, did a 'conductivity test' on both wires and tried them with RCA input speakers, worked fine). Repeated the whole process, in every combination I could think of, directley to front and rear 'audio inputs' of computer RCA jacks. About the ONLY thing I haven't tried is the "S-video" plug!

I got sound out of Sony , headphones and speakers, sound out of computer-no problem, sound out of 80-90% of 'Roxio converted VHS to DVD's' , files and DVD's, but NOTHING from ANY audio cassettes, commercial or 'homemade'. Can't 'monitor' going in, hear nothing coming out, don't know whether sound's IN there or not, I THINK it IS, as I said via WMP 'squiggly lines', but can't HEAR a thing.

AND Roxio's 'Contact Technical Support' form, keeps 're-setting' everytime I hit 'Submit', well, 90% of the time, the other 10% go through, but you never know which is going to be in that 10% ! They keep sending me "We haven't heard from you so we're closing ticket as problem solved". I've got DOZENS of 'UNsolved' tickets 'cause their stupid form keeps re-setting on submit ! It's REALLY 'ticking me off' !

Thanks for all of you guy's help, but still no sound,
