Any Blu-Ray DVD Recommendations

artistpapa

Question

Now that I've purchased Toast 10 pro and burned a bunch of HD video and slideshow on to DVD-R media and DVD+R/DL, what do I look for in buying a Blu-Ray player to play to my HDTV. Most of my needs will be to play my HD movies recorded on DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs.

Realized that many Blu-Ray players will not play HD content on recorded on DVDs. Any recommendations welcomed.

Try one of those on this list: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...st&p=271128

The problem isn't playback of content, so autoplay should work. It's with menu's and chapter markers. The FCE/iMovie exported chapter markers form Toast just plain do not work properly. Roxio is aware of it, I'm not sure what the exact issues are. The menu's problems are courtesy Blu-ray consortium. The BD5/BD9 menu's don't even work from Sony's own DVD Architect on their PS-3. So even if you use Sony's camcorder, computer, S/W and player, you still cannot play the BD5's and 9's (DVDs and DL-DVD's). You must either patch the discs to fool the player's "censor's lookup table", or use Blu-ray writeable disc. This used to work, but got subsequently blocked by the player's S/W updates. It appears that pressed disc pirates are the cause of some of these updates, and make it diffcult for legitimate users of the technology to burn BD's. It seems that Roxio uses "proprietary" menu scheme, so I am guessing that is why they do not play on some of the players and why chapter markers do not work. From the looks of things, a S/W update can disable any player from playing these menu's at the player manufacturer's choosing.

Thank you for the excellent list of Blu-ray players that work okay with Toast 10 menus. I just tested my DVD-R discs that include HD and DV content made from my Macbook Pro using Toast 10. The HD content and menus played okay on Panasonics BD55 and BD60. However, I was disappointed in the 'grainy' video quality when viewing DV movies on the DVD. The DV videos look far better when played on a regular DVD player.
