DVD Burning Question!

Chandler

Question

Ok so basically I am having trouble burning the video files onto the dvd disk and then being able to watch them on my television.

So now this is what I have,

File Types: .avi .wkv .mpg

What I need help with: Well basically i need to know if these files will play on the television after being burned on the CD using Toast Titanium 10.

So can someone please explain to me what I need to do in order to get these files to the right file type so I can burn it meaning if i do need to change the file types then what programs can i do this with (free). Now I hope you guys also can direct me on steps to do this with programs. I use a Macintosh OXS computer so please make sure they are .dmg file downloads.

Be sure to download and install the perian codec at perian.org. If you also get some Windows Media videos you'll need one of the paid versions of Flip4Mac in order for Toast to be able to encode those for a video DVD.

Toast works with most video formats but there always are some odd ones that don't play well with Macs. I don't know what a .wkv file is. Can it play with QuickTime player? If so, it should be okay with Toast.

No it does not.

Now the thing is I need to know what to do with this perian program and Flip4Mac what does that do?

Please answer and thanks for trying to answer :D

Perian is a "codec" that enables QuickTime to play many formats that it otherwise cannot play. It also enables Toast to be able to decode certain things such as the audio in some DivX videos. So it expands the usefulness of both QuickTime and Toast.

Flip-4-Mac enables QuickTime to play Windows Media Player formats. The free version enables playback on your Mac. The paid versions also enable re-encoding of those formats to other formats.

OK well I do not think you are understanding what I am having troubles with.

I tested burning a .avi file type to a dvd disk using toast 10 and it worked. But then i figured ok .avi's work so i tried burning another movie and it did not work.

So what filetype do i have to convert it to in order for it to work?

I don't know how to help you with that because I don't know what codec was used to create the video file. If it doesn't work in Toast after installing Perian then it just might not be Mac compatible. An AVI file can contain any of a variety of video codecs although a common one is DivX. A good rule of thumb is if QuickTime can play it then Toast can encode it to something else. But there can be exceptions.
