lhoward

Question

I made a program in video wave, but when I go to burn, the DVD builder will not launch. I have run my spyware and run a DVD fix that the support tec suggested. NOthing works. I cannot even open the DVD builder from the main menu. I have used this program before with no problems. The version is EC7. PLease help. I need this for an end of the year kindergarten program on FRiday. Thanks!

I had a BIG problem with applications not launching when I first installed EMC 7.5. The culprit for me was Data Execution Prevention. You can find it here in XP:

Control Panel > System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Data Execution Prevention

I usually shutdown all other running programs - antivirus etc. Sometimes when I forget to do that, applications won't launch reliably.

Hope that helps.

If it's worked before and suddenly stopped working, I'd suspect spyware ( try using LavaSoft's Adaware SE and/ or Spybot Search and Destroy. Sometimes one program will pick up spyware that another misses.)

Other things to try..... defragment your hard drive,

Also, disconnect from the internet and turn off all firewalls and virus checkers. I've heard of internet pop up blockers disabling some programs, but I don't think DVD Builder was one of them. Still with all the new 'protection' software on the market, you never know.

How much space do you have left on your hard drive? Go to Windows\ Start\ My Computer, right click on your hard drive and choose 'properties'.

Before you try this next step....Have you edited/ altered any of the photos in the VideoWave Photo Editor (Edit\ Photo)? If so, find the folder c:\Documents and Settings\ All Users\ Application Data\ Roxio\ VideoWave7 \ Edited Images and Copy the contents of that folder into a new folder on your Desktop. It's a hidden folder, so if you're using the Windows Search function, you need to do the advanced search for hidden folders. You need to do this step because this folder is overwritten and you lose your work with a repair or reinstall.

Then do Windows Add Remove Programs, Roxio EMC7, Change, Repair. ... or as a last resort uninstall and reinstall. You'll have to put those photos back in that folder after you're done and you might have to do a Browse for Missing Files to relink everything.

Just thought I would sympathize with you, I have exactly the same problem. EMC 7 ran for months then DVD builder decided not to load. It says sorry program has to close and then crashes. I have removed and reloaded EMC7, turned off virus scanners, ran spybot and even romoved IE7 and now use Firefox because someone told me that might be it. Still doesn't work and every once in awhile I check in case someone figures this very common problem out. I wont upgrade or buy another because I cant see where that would be different than reloading this one from scratch. I had all the same spyware and XP with IE6 when it ran before this. I also tried saving the program from storybook but still can't open and burn it. DVD builder will not load from main page at all. I even tried system restore to an earlier time when it worked and it doesn't work.

Ihoward was what is known as a "hit and run poster". He or she has not visited the forums since July 2. I take it your problems started when you loaded IE7. That is unfortunate.

I tried the final version of IE 7, but before I loaded it, I ghosted my main partition. IE 7 rendered VideoWave and DVD Builder useless. I didn't even bother to remove it. I used Ghost to get my system back to where it was before IE 7.

Before I ghosted back, I did quite a bit of testing of IE 7. It works with version 9 with no problem. I suspect that the problems you are having are due to IE 7. Have you tried uninstalling the EMC 7, then clearing out all Roxio folders on your hard drive?

You might want to try and Add Remove Programs, EMC7, Change, REPAIR first.

I've found a lot of things that have crept into my computer are 'breaking' applications. I suspect that some of them are Microsoft 'security patches.'
