converted DVD>iPhone movie files unsupported on iphone

Ive been using Popcorn for a couple of years now for converting video_ts files to iphone/ipod movies.

they were always saved w/ the .m4v extension and worked great.

lately they are being saved w/ the .mp4 extension which for some reason, while still viewable in itunes/quicktime, Im unable to sync to my device. I have to re-convert with itunes to get them to work. a big pain in the butt as you can imagine. Im also having audio sync problems more often on the first convert.

has anyone had similar problems or any ideas on what to do?

If you have QuickTime Pro you can quickly fix the recognition issue. Open the Popcorn-converted video with QuickTime Pro and choose Show Movie Properties for the Window menu. In the window that appears you can find a Text track. Select it and click Delete. Then save the file.

Audio sync issues are often due to frame rate differences. If you set Popcorn to convert at 24 fps instead of 30 fps the audio sync should be correct for those videos.
