I haven't found any information so far about the USB 2861's hardware specifications in terms of audio, video, and standards compliancy (like OCHI). So what's this little bugger capable of?

The device is used to transfer analog video from VCRs or analog camcorders to digital video. What else do you need to know?

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually I wanted to know/confirm things like the video frame size and rate (720x480 & 29.97 ?), audio (32 or 48 kHz ?), and whether this eGalax_eMPIA EM286X series device is OHCI compliant. I fully understand what the unit does - been an engineer for more than 40 years now.

Mike

I thought that only Firewire devices had to be OCHL compliant. Did you mean UHCL or one of the other acronyms? Are you going to be using it or re-engineering it? You do need the specific proprietary drivers and either HS2DVD or Creator 2009 for it to work. Much of what you are talking about depend on your computer. Buy one directly from Roxio and try it; you have do days to return it for a refund.

Audio is probably only stereo 24 bit, 720 by 480 and 29.9. I'm sure Roxio has drivers for PAL.

Thanks to all, I agree this is probably the best info that exists.

FWIW, OHCI does support USB (Microsoft even wrote a stack to support it), and UHCI is the Intel lead competition. Other drivers do exist for the EM286X series chipset, but I don't plan write any or any reverse-engineering. The bottom line is that if hardware/software standards are followed, other software like Premiere might function with this capture device under Windows, Linux, and/or OS-X, thereby increasing its value.

I have no time or interest in buying something just to try it. I've already purchased Creator 2009, but when it goes end-of-life, the hardware may still be viable (even with third-party drivers) if it adheres to a known standard in the first place.

I hereby declare this horse to be dead and not in need of any further beating...

Mike

The device converts Analogue to a Digital Signal. But it is some sort of basic signal and is unusable until the capture software processes it!

Note the Option list: post-39730-1251203583.jpg

Have NO Idea what the basic signal is. WMM in XP can use the device. Also it is usable to EMC 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 when the driver is install.

I have run it with Sony Vegas and it does not work!

So it appears it works with many but not all. Funny, today it says it is only compatible with Roxio Creator 2010 & 2010 Pro. So that is the only promise they are making

Nice update price from 2009 to 2010...
