Creator 2009 Does Not Like My ISO File

fwdlink

Question

I have recently upgraded to Creator 2009 and having problems getting the Copy and DVD Converter to work. Following the same steps in Roxio Creator 9 it works fine. Are there settings in Creator 2009 i should be aware of to get it to function? For example i load my video in no problems (vob or iso), i change the settings to iphone, and change the output option to File/Folder. i nominate the folder and it goes off to convert but goes almost immediately to 100% and completes. i go to the folder (which has been created) and there is nothing there. i also note that the "Portable/Media device" option is greyed - not sure if this is related as this feature was also in Roxio 9 (how do you get that to work as well?). Any assistance to get this to work is appreciated as i dont want to have to use Roxio 9 to do my conversions. thanks

I have the same issue and what it turns out is that Creator 2009 does not like the ISO file for some reason, I have no idea why, however what I did to get around this immediate 100% issue is converted the ISO to the VIDEO_TS formats which include VOB etc. The perform the exact same steps as you do above and it works fine now.

I sure would like to know what its problem is though with the ISO's, they are normal in every sense, not encrypted etc.

Also, converting to any of the formats tends to take forever and a day, for example I'm converting 90mins DVD to WMV and it seems to be playing it frame by frame, i.e. as if I were watching it, looks like it will take 90mins. Is this right? I thought it would speed it up and process hyper speed in the background

Any tips, feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

As you have found out, you can follow this procedure (or the one you use). Look at it here. It tells you how to make and mpg2 file out of an ISO. This is for EMC 9 but it should be the same for Creator 2009 with Video Copy and Convert. You can then convert the mpg2 disc to the format of your choice.

As for the name of the post, in the listing, hold your cursor over the current name and it will highlight to allow you to change it. Use something nice or somoen may change it again! ;)

Many thanks Skins for the tip, that's quite a bit quicker and saves me the extra trouble. I was only trying the ISO route as that's how I had pulled it in first and I don't need all the nav and such, I had no idea it would cause the programme to go wonky. lol

P.S. Tried your tip regarding the name at the top of the listings and also within the listings and I don't get that option. I suspect perhaps it's because it was moved, I'm on IE8 so even put it in compat mode to be safe. Nonetheless do appreciate your suggestions and tip.

Cheers!

You select the ISO, select the convert to file option, in my case I've tried them all, avi,wmv,mp4 etc., and after you click Save As, it starts the convert process and runs to 100% complete in a matter of seconds, same as the original poster in the other thread. My ISO is intact as it plays and burns just fine. I'm using Creater 2009 SP4, fresh Vista SP2.

You cannot use "Save As" to convert videos. All that does is save your project file - there is absolutely no video conversion done

Well yes and no actually, this is only for Video & Convert, there is no other option, as soon as you choose your options and click SAVE AS (Upper Right Corner Button), it starts the conversion once you select the file location. So Save As for Video & Convert does start the conversion, it's the only way. Frankly I think it is mislabled, it should be Convert or Copy, in the File menu it is called Copy/Save As.

However, you're absolutely correct if you use the File Menu or are using Video Wave, it does exactly as you note.

I wish it was consistent on how Roxio put this together, just like the names, the Creator 2009 main menu has entirely different naming conventions, which I see is causing loads of confusion when folks like yourself are trying to help us newbies out.

Yes, you're right about the mis-labelling of "Save As" in VCC. I always associate "Save As" with the file menu option

It would be nice if Roxio/Sonic were consistent with the terminology across their various products. THe confusion is going to get even worse now tha Creator 2010 is out

Just a quick update, tried the simple option as you suggested, the same problem for me exists:

Followed the instructions to the letter, Conversion box pops up in 2-3 seconds it races across to 100% and fails. By failing I mean it acts as it did everything fine and returns to the menu, but no file created.

Any ideas?

I just tried to convert an iso file to mpeg-2 and I get the same result. I then selected Options and noticed that the default setting is PAL. I switched to NTSC and it started to convert.

THen I ran into another problem. I clicked cancel and even though it says "cancelling , please wait" nothing happens the VCC continues to convert and the only way to stop VCC is via Task Manager.

I have no idea what you mean by "Creator 2009 does not like the ISO file ". What are you trying to do with it?

In fact, why are you converting DVDs to wmv? Of course it has to convert it frame by frame and it it were to convert a 90 min movie (I hope its not a commercial movie) in 90 minutes it is doing it at "Hyperspeed". When doing video converting/rendering its best to not do any other task on your computer. Video work requires most of your systems resources and CPU.

Hijacking another OPs thread is not good forum etiquette since in most cases your problem is totally different. You would be much better of starting your own thread stating clearly what you are trying to accomplish and what you are doing.

Hi Walt, I must respectfully disagree with you, I don't agree that I was hijacking another OP's post, as my problem is identical if you read through my post again you'll note that I offer some suggestions to his problem, this is the point of the forums is it not? Since we're being pedantic here, I'll go into more detail for absolute clarity.

I quote from my post:

"I have the same issue and what it turns out is that Creator 2009 does not like the ISO file for some reason, I have no idea why, however what I did to get around this immediate 100% issue is converted the ISO to the VIDEO_TS formats which include VOB etc. The perform the exact same steps as you do above and it works fine now. "

So just to be clear, below are the actions I am performing which result in the same problem as the post that I originally replied:

You select the ISO, select the convert to file option, in my case I've tried them all, avi,wmv,mp4 etc., and after you click Save As, it starts the convert process and runs to 100% complete in a matter of seconds, same as the original poster in the other thread. My ISO is intact as it plays and burns just fine. I'm using Creater 2009 SP4, fresh Vista SP2.

I found that if I pull the ISO apart into VIDEO_TS files I can then use Copy & Convert just fine. The extra commentary and question in my posting was regarding the process of conversion, it is new to me and hence rather than clutter the board with a posting that is still related I added my question there, which you've kindly answered and I appreciate that.

Regarding why I'm doing this, we have some DVD's that we created and we need to deploy for on-line viewing across the intranet, this can't be done with a DVD obviously :) , so we want a digital format, such as WMV as every PC has Windows Media player.

Hope this clarifies, any suggestions regarding the ISO convert to 100% in seconds issue would be appreciated.

Have a good day all...

MOD: Would you be so kind to change the subject to something useful, "fwdlink's topic" isn't going to help anyone :) I can't seem to be able to find a way to change it. Thanks!

Perhaps I don't understand why you think you can convert an ISO file to play on another device directly. An ISO has all the video/audio and menus but it also has the navigation and all the little chunks of information that tell a DVD player the it is a movie disc.
