womanmarine
I use roxio a lot to make avi files for use in another program. It used to work like a charm. Now, any avi file I make is not recognizable by the other program I use. I am at a loss and wondering if I should back up to 7.5? Is this a problem anyone else is having? The choices have been dumbed down and I can't find what will work. I would appreciate any help.
ggrussell
Just make sure you have chosen DV AVI. That should work with any video editor.
womanmarine
Just make sure you have chosen DV AVI. That should work with any video editor. I know it should. That's the problem. It used to, now in 8 it doesn't. I use Studio and it won't even put the file on the timeline nor play it. I have done exactly what you outlined. The output will play in Windows Media Player, but won't play in my video editor.
Guest ivanatrox
When you play the file in Windows Media Player, what's the video codec listed if you go File -> Properties? Also, if your other program is the only program that can't recognize the file (assumption, since WMP plays the file fine), did you try to contact the support of that software and see what they say? ggrussell
Since the AVI plays fine in Windows Media Player, open Windows Movie Maker and import the file into that app. If it works, I'd say the other application has a problem.

Well, wrong again. My other application is fine. The only file it won't play or work with is this one from Roxio. That said, I figured I should re-install Roxio, so I uninstalled it. Both my dvd players disappeared. I think I'm done with this program. I loved 5, 6, 7, 7.5, and have had nothing but grief from this one. Now to try to find out how to fix my dvd players so they work again, or at least will run. PS: Ivanatrox: no codec is listed when I did what you suggested. Guest ivanatrox
Well, wrong again. My other application is fine. The only file it won't play or work with is this one from Roxio. If the file created by EMC 8 works on all other applications but that one program, I would think that particular program has trouble detecting the correct codec for the file you created. PS: Ivanatrox: no codec is listed when I did what you suggested. that's a bit odd. I would think a codec is being used when you play back a DV AVI file (or any video file in general). do you have any video codec shown whe you try to play a DV AVI file not created by EMC 8? Yes, I tried other video files, they all show a codec. It's a non-subject now, I have uninstalled EMC8, and will think hard before I reinstall 7 or 7.5. You all have talked as if I don't know what I am doing, I can assure you that is not true. As in my previous post, I have used Roxio since 5. I also use Studio, Liquid Edition and Commotion, so I do not lack experience in this area. But I do appreciate the attempt to help me with this issue. Be aware that when I uninstalled my DVD drives disappeared. This was fixed with a visit to the microsoft knowledge base, as it is a known issue. ggrussell
When answering posts, I never make any assumptions about anyone's computer knowledge, but their level of expertise usually can be accertained from their responses. You seem to making too many assumptions that just because one application works, that everything is hunky dory. Most likely you have a corrupted registry. When you say 'Studio', I assume you mean Pinnacle's Studio. Versions 7, 8 and 9 were total nightmares for me causing more problems patch after patch. Pinnacle products will never again be on any of my machines.
