Changing Menu Audio to use avi file audio

rahonzik

Question

When I changed the menu background by selecting an avi file, EMC7.5 automatically changed the menu audio to that contained in the avi file. EMC8.0 apparently doesn't do that leaving the audio unchanged (i.e., the default audio). I suppose that with EMC8.0 I now have to manually change the menu audio as well but the "Change Menu Audio" button doesn't allow me to select avi files at all. How do I get the capibility to add avi audio to the menu with EMC8.0 just like I had with EMC7.5? If this is not possible for some reason with EMC8.0, how do I at least turn off the default audio to result in no menu audio?

Depends on which version you have. Some the features may not be available. To MUTE, click the little speaker icon and check MUTE.

To use the native audio of the AVI that you chose for the background, you need to click the first icon (EDIT MENU BACKGROUND. This takes you to a Videowave editor with the AVI loaded. If the default audio shows up here, you can delete it in the timeline. It's just like editing a short clip. Transitions/Effects, etc., should be available. In the standard version, you can't edit the menu's duration so make sure the video fits. In the Deluxe version, make sure you edit the duration to fit the video or visa versus.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I have the Standard version because the box EMC8 came in doesn't say either "Standard" or "Deluxe". I thought I was buying the latest and greatest but maybe not.

I understand completely your advice regarding the speaker icon :) (I had assumed incorrectly that selecting "Mute" killed the audio for the main production as well.) But I can't follow your advice regarding the use of the native audio of the AVI. The first icon (next to the speaker icon) on my MyDVD8 says "CHANGE MENU AUDIO" and when I select it I get the "SELECT AUDIO FILE" window and don't get the VideoWave editor at all. Of course the "SELECT AUDIO FILE" dialogue doesn't allow me to select AVI file types. What am I doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong. AVI is not an audio format. Try this:

Open Media Selector

Right click on your AVI and extract audio

Save the audio to MP3 or WAV file

Then you should be able to add it as a mneu background audio.

Thanks for your help and patience. Roxio really made this more difficult in EMC8.0 than it was in EMC7.5! It used to automatically select the AVI audio when AVI video was selected for the menu background. Seems to be a step backward to me. At least you've given me a work-around and I much appreciate it.
