Are my Laptop Specs Enough

PhotoMagicCreations

Question

Can anyone tell me if I can run Roxio 2010 Pro on my laptop.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC with the following specs.

OS: Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1

Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-70 200 GHz

Memory: 4 GB of Ram

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics

System Type: 64-bit Operating System

Hard Drive: 133 GB left on Hard Drive

What I would like to do is download Roxio 2010 and then download about 60 GB of avi video and edit it, then burn it to a dvd. Would I be able to do that with this laptop?

Sknis,

I have worked with Roxio before, my last version was Roxio Suite 7. It seemed to get very sluggish when I brought in two large AVI video files that were approximately 11 GB each.

I have two camcorders. One is an older one from Canon (don't remember the model number) that uses 8 mm tapes. I have to connect the camcorder via a firewire connection. I have already transferred the files to my computer. These are the AVI files. The new camcorder I just purchased is a Sony Handycam HDR-XR500V that produces M2TS files. I decided to purchase Roxio 2010 Pro and it seems to be able to read both the AVI files and the M2TS files. The only thing I noticed is that my graphics card is not fast enough to play the M2TS files without skipping frames. I was surprised, though, that I could bring into one project 60 GB of AVI files (about 6 hours of video) and cut the video down to about 1 hour. I haven't burned the dvd yet, but the program worked really well while I edited the video.

Thanks, Sknis, for all your help. I really do appreciate it.

What are the digits and letter after the HP Pavilion dv7?

My opinion only:

I would worry about the graphics chip but it should work if you use it in the software rendering mode. It might be a little tight on the hard drive but that should be OK if you are careful and do a lot of cleaning before and after the editing. It would be best if you use some USB connected storage to make sure.

Remember that 1) You cannot work with any protected files 2) AVI is a wrapper and might be some sort of unsupported format I don't think that DivX is supported anymore. 3) Video Work takes a long time 4) You can put only one hour of best quality Standard Definition video on a standard single sides disc. Double that for a DL disc.

Do you have any more information on those AVI files?

I believe the laptop is an HP Pavilion dv7-1130US. The avi files are video files I recorded of our vacation that I will be transferring from my camcorder.

That should be fine for what you want to do. Now tell us about your camcorder - Manufacturer and Model. Does it capture in High Definition? Does it capture to a tape, memory stick or DVD? There are different ways of getting the files to the computer. I'm sure there is but I don't off hand know of any camcorders that capture directly to an AVI file.

BTW, if you buy the product directly from Roxio (on-line) you have a 30 day money back warranty should it not be what you want. If the work flow is confusing for you there are other software products that are less and some more advanced for what you want to do.

If you are a real beginner and don't necessarily want to spend the money now, why don't you just use Windows Movie Maker to get started?
