Should I un-install before I Install ?

I am having a few problems with Roxio recognizing my drives when burning DVD's so I want to re-install EMC 7 on my Sony VAIO XP home Edition, 200GB hard drive. Should I remove my existing version of EMC 7 first or just add a second copy? If I do add a second copy do I need to re-name it to keep the two versions seperate? If I remove my existing version first how can I save some of my slide show productions in progress? The reason I am considering not removing my existing version of EMC 7 is all the problems other users are having when trying to Un-install. Do you have any sugestions??

I'm going to assume you've not only read through what other people have tried, but also tried them yourself.

I can tell you from experience that uninstalling and reinstalling isn't always the answer. And I'm pretty sure that installing a program concurrently could likely give you more problems than you want to face.

By the way, if worse comes to worse, you can save your productions. Just use windows explorer to navigate

to the folders with the dat, dsdm, proxy and psod files are located. Save these folders to a cd and when you reinstall, simply put this info back into the 'new' folders. I use VW7 so I'm not sure if my folders are different but they are probably located in c:\documents and settings\'username'\application data\roxio\...

I have been reading the similar problems and replies from other users. What I haven't seen are many successfull fixes to these problems on drives not being recognized. You asked if I had tried the link that is pinned to the forum. Do you mean this link below

 

If after installing Roxio it is unable to see your drives yet Windows sees them ok you might try the following:

http://patches.sonic.com/PX/pxengine1_08_34a.exe

 

If this is the link download you are talking about then no I have not tried this one yet.

Also thank you for the suggestions on saving slide show productions to CD's.

That seems to be the link that helps a lot of people.

 

The thing with getting help with a problem has been that everyone has a unique setup in their computer, various drives, other program potential conflicts and so on.

Re-submit your problem with as much information as is possible and one of the gurus can start to suggest a solution that is unique not just for the problem (which isn't) but for your computer system/setup. Make sure to list your computer specs as fully as possible. This isn't because we're all voyeurs, it's important because the hardware in the computer can be a problem and every bit of info you can volunteer can give a clue to the smart people out there.
