looking for specific functions formerly in Jam

scenario: 1 long continuous track (think live concert or DJ mixtape) with several track marks throughout. need a software that can burn those tracks with no glitch or hiccup as each track changes. only Jam has done this for me previously. Toast, even with gap set to 0, still has a slight audible hiccup at each track mark. is there a roxio or any other software that handles this?

 

further info: i use audacity to put the track marks in, then export the session divided at the track marks. those files go into Jam and burn perfectly with no hesitations at track marks. however, Jam has stopped working properly and Roxio support has no solution. i am open to suggestions involving any softwares compatible with mac.

What OS are you using? I'm curious about Jam not working properly and am wondering at what point that happened. Also, what is it not doing properly?

 

Toast shouldn't be leaving any audible hiccup at the track marks. I've checked this several times with my Mac and Toast 8, 9 and 10. I've saved as an .sd2f disc image file and opened it as a single track to check the waveform and there's no glitch in the waveform at all where tracks meet. I do know that Toast's preview function has an audible click between tracks but it doesn't transfer to the burned audio CD for me. If you click the custom crossfade in Toast you can preview the point at which the tracks meet. Do you experience any hiccup in that preview?

I'm using 10.5.8. Here's the new message jam gives, basically telling me its inserting some spaces. never did this before.

as for toast, even roxio confirmed that it puts a slight hesitation between the tracks. they took 1 song, split it in 2, then put both parts into toast to burn with no gaps. they could also hear the hiccup when the track changed, and had no further advice. ive burned several cds trying to get it right with different settings, but i could always hear it. jam worked perfectly with no special settings...ive never tried the preview,just making an actual audio cd..

I'll try to remember to check this with my own Mac. But my guess is you'll not have this issue on a different disc burner. I suggest getting an external optical drive. It may be the firmware on your Mac's built in drive that's the source of the problem. I don't have a Mac with that model drive so I can't make an exact test.

 

You do have 2 seconds set for the first track, right? I can't see it in your screen capture because it's covered by the message.

yes, i do have the first track set for 2 seconds. actually, jam won't let you burn without it. i need to find a new software with the same functionality because they're not supporting jam anymore anyway, so it'll just get worse over time as the operating system continues to be enhanced. i believe this should be able to be done with the internal drive since it had been done with it for years before. any ideas on another program?

I know we're on different wave lengths but I think you'll be much more satisfied buying a different disc burner than spending on different software. What that message tells me is your drive isn't supporting Disc at once burning. I don't know why that is because probably any drive made in the past 10 years supports DAO. Apple didn't include DAO support in some of its superdrives' firmware because there was a time when iTunes only supported Track at once. Do you have Disc at Once selected in Jam's and Toast's Recorder settings window?

 

As I mentioned before, I'm not having any audible clicks when burning with either Toast 10 or Jam 6. However, it's been awhile since I burned a gapless audio CD so I need to double-check it again.

 

You might notice that the message you got with Jam says the recorder (meaning the optical drive) doesn't support gaps less than 2 sectors. That's a track-at-once issue.
