Return to Toast 10 v10.0.2 if you are PowerPC, Tiger user

Warning, I and apparently many other PPC Tiger users running Toast 10.0.2 saw the most recent 'software update' v10.0.4 available when we opened Toast, and mistakenly downloaded the update and installed it, only to discover THEN that it would not run on Tiger 10.4.11. Ouch.

I know, I know, Roxio says Toast 10 is not supported for Tiger, but the fact is that up to 10.0.2

it runs quite nicely, thank you, with lovely Blu Ray discs (no chapter markers from FCP, of course).

 

Roxio meanwhile simply said "the software update 10.0.2 is no longer available" !!!!

No apologies, no help.

 

So if you made this mistake, for now, remove Toast and the 10.0.4 update, (although you may want to grab some of the templates and other goodies??) and you can find the 10.0.2 update via the Brits!! Thanks Mister Cookie? See his lifesaving post under Toast 10, topic "Roxio if 10.0.3 did have the Blu-Ray bug post a link for 10.0.2" If you scroll down you will find the links (the one ending in id=164) I copied and pasted into new window and it worked nicely - was able to download on my PowerBook G4 running Tiger 10.4.11, and installed and runs quite nicely again - WHEW!!!!

 

I know, I know, I should upgrade to the Intel Macs, but this PowerBook G4 works quite nicely and I would like to get a normal lifetime out of it. So it takes 2 blinks instead of 1 blink to do some of the tasks and encoding - less toxic waste in the landfills, money is tight everywhere, and take some time to enjoy life!

You are fully aware that Toast 10 is not supported on Tiger but you choose to run it at your own risk anyway. Luckily you did not encounter any issue previously. However, when you found out the new update doesn't work on Tiger, it's Roxio's fault because it's not supported?

Yes, You'll also note that their own 'system requirements' list a G4 as a minimum requirement, and it's Roxio's responsibility to inform their many Tiger customers that their newest update is not only not supported (meaning no tech support) but WON'T RUN on Tiger. You had to be there, and had to have dealt with Roxio tech support on this issue. It's just tacky tech support.

Yes, I was and am aware of ALL of that, but you can see that if you have a PowerPC G4, and it is a minimum requirement, and you HAVE been running Toast 10, versions 0, then 10.0.1, and then v 10.0.2, that had the identical system requirements listed in all updates, that one could easily assume the next versions would ALSO run on Tiger, which is why Roxio should have clarified. I am tired of this disscussion...

So having 6/7 things makes you think that Toast 10 will run correctly?

 

If you called Roxio Customer Care or Tech Support, they would have told you that it might be able to run, but they won't be able to support you because you don't have Leopard.

I know this thread is old, but lets sumarize:

 

- 10.0.2 will work under Tiger (no version 10.0.3+ will work)

- when using 10.0.2 and Tiger you will get no blu ray / HD support on a G4 (perhaps would work, but would take very long?), so the last fully working combination for PPCs without limits would be: PowerPC G5 + Tiger + not higher than 10.0.2

 

- 10.0.3 however will be usable on a G5 with Leopard with HD/blue ray support or on a G4 with Leopard, but without HD/blu-ray.

 

Different question:

how do you gues burn blu rays on a Mac? Can you just buy any blu ray recorder and connect that to your Mac?
