Question

:) I have tried to make a dvd for over a week now. Staying up late and everything. I know there is just a little something that I am not doing, to make this work right. Here's what I have ...

Started on Photosuite 7 storyboard and created my project. Went to burn dvd and the Ok button is not highlighted. I have reinstalled the software and still not working. I have Videoware (if that matters) I also have Nero and did read that these are not compatiable? I am running a Gateway Computer/ Windows XP with a built in DVD writer. Can someone/ anyone please help. I am soooooo frustrated. This was supposed to be a fathers day project if I can ever get it fixed. Thanks

I've got a Gateway too and I've got to use Nero to write to the DVD. When you go to Windows\ Start\ All Programs, do you have a Burn a CD or Data DVD as an option with Nero Express?

You went into DVD Builder and instead of burning to a DVD, burned to an 'image file' (.iso)?

Then in Nero Express, under Copy and Backup, selected Burn Image to Disk, then Disk Image or Saved Project and changed the drop down file type to show Image Files, clicked on the .iso file and slelected Open? That should give you the Nero Burn window.

Why not just go to Videowave, build your production and then go to DVDbuilder and burn it there ? You mentioned "Videoware". Do mean "Videowave" ??

Frank....

It won't see his DVD burner. (This started at the end of another thread.)

I guess I didn't catch the end of that other thread you are talking about, ml. I haven't seen anything in this thread that would suggest checking what kind of DVD writer the OP has or suggesting to make sure the firmware is up to date etc. There have been others who have posted a similar problem with drives not being recognized and there have been several different suggestions of how to fix it. Some have suggested going to the Registry and changing the upper and lower filters settings, while others have suggested reinstalling their program, and still others have made the firmware update and been helped. It seems all to often there are incompatibility problems with some drives, while others never have a problem. As far as updating the firmware, some have suggested going to the place where they bought the computer (i.e. Gateway, HP. Dell etc.) to get the firmware update, but I suggest that one should go to the drive manufacturer to get this update.

I actually did the made the changes to the upper and lower filter and it then went to no drive present. So I went back and changed them back. Now when I go to burn from the dvd builder it says incompatiable media. and the ok button is not highlighted. I am at a loss at what to do as well as frustrated. I still think there is just a little something that needs to be tweeked, just cant figure out what. I am greatful for all the help. I'm not giving up just yet, i'm very presistant. This was to be a gift for my husband for Father's day, if all else fails he can look at it on the computer until I can figure out how to burn it to a DVD

Hmmmmm......

Have you checked the DVD burner manufacturer's website to see if there are any updates for that drive? And check the Gateway site for updates too.

Have you ever been able to burn a DVD with that computer?

If you double click on that .iso file it should open Disk Copier. Does Disk Copier see the DVD drive? How about Creator Classic?

Whatever you do DON'T do another repair or uninstall until you've done a Windows \ Start\ Search \ Advanced Search in Hidden Folders and Subfolders for .png files. If you've edited any of those photos, the changes might have been resaved by EMC7 as .png files and there's a bug in the program that will destroy the changes if you repair or reinstall. There's a hidden Roxio folder in a C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio\VideoWave7\EditedImages and you've got to move those images before you repair or reinstall.

It is possible that there is a conflict between the two programs. Do you have a backup disk that you can use to reinstall Nero?

when I mentioned the upper and lower filters in the registry James I should have made that suggestion also. The point I was trying to make was just a few things that others have done to eliminate their problems. But since I mentioned them I should have also made some suggestions as to how to go about them. Thanks for suggesting the steps regarding the registry James. Sometimes I just take for granted that everyone knows how to do some of these steps and that's my fault for thinking that way. My bad

After the OP completes some of the suggestions ml has made maybe the problem will be solved. Hey, it takes a great wife to do those nice things for her husband, so I hope we can get the problem solved. :)
