Menu buttons do not function properly after burning to dvd

grm

Question

I record (VHS) and capture four ½ hr shows , edit in VW, save as, and add menu with four chapters in My DVD. Have been doing this with Creator 10 for about a year with no problems.

Have installed Creator 2010 following directions for uninstall and clean install in Roxio Knowledge base. I also had new Graphics card installed as listed in my specs to improve encoding and burn times and overall performance, all done at tech shop.

I use the WATERFALL menu in my DVD for this, and the problem is that the buttons which have a white outline so you know which button or chapter you are choosing do not work properly after burning the movie, but appear to work fine when previewing movie prior to burning.

After burning the movie, on the main menu button, only the left side of button is highlighted.

In the chapter menu the Home button does not highlight at all. The top center button highlights on the left half of it and functions the top right button which does not highlight at all. The top left button highlights first on left half (and functions that button or movie) then on the right half and functions the top center button or movie. The only bottom button highlights on the left half and functions that button or movie.

I would also like to know if there is other ways to improve encoding & burning time. Creator 10 burned the same set up as here in 2 hrs and Creator 2010 took 2:45 hrs. How do you know if cuda is working or not?

Can anyone help me? grm

A rare number of DVD Players can play AVCHD DVD's…

I have had 5 DVD Players, Sony – Pioneer – Panasonic, and not a single one can play an AVCHD DVD.

I think a few exist but I have never seen one other than PlayStation 3…

Before I would slap $100+ down for a BD Player I would really read the specs closely to confirm that it can play AVCHD format.

None of my PC's support CUDA or Stream so I cannot address that... As far as I know, it is limited to within MyDVD.

Thanks for all the help Jim. I have been trying different formats and discovered that if I capture my video using DVD high Quality(Mpeg-2 8mbps) edit in VW, save as, and burn an ISO from My DVD(same as original), then burn disc from ISO I get fantastic results. An MPEG insignia appears similar to cuda while burning. Captured a 30 minute video and burn times were 31/2 minutes for each step and the video and audio quality seemed as good or better than capturing in DV AVI. Even used the default menu in My DVD in my production.

Thanks again, grm

Capturing as mpeg (DV HQ) will yield excellent quality as long as it doesn't get rendered too many times…

You mentioned using Save As in VW… That is good because it renders nothing and leaves your original file untouched.

But there are times when you do need to render in VW then you are going to render again in MyDVD…

The mpeg format is not lossless so every time it gets unpacked and re-rendered, you lose a little.

Using the DV capture (AVI) there is no compression thus no loss as long as you stay in that format. Of course you notice the big file sizes...

The CinePlayer with 2010 will play an AVCHD DVD in any DVD Player…

What is the exact error message – I get a CinePlayer warning on my XP machine that the processor does not support HD playback. Click OK and plays fine.

Reran test, message says: your system does not meet minimum requirements to play high definition content accurately. Please check that you have the minimal requirements:

cpu 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor or equivelent

microsoft windows XP,Vista, or Win 7 (all versions)

1 GB Ram

Direct X9.0 compatable video display card

Latest updates from microsoft

As you stated CinePlayer did play the disc, however, my Sony dvd player will not. I then clicked the "Learn More about disc media" in the box which comes up in My DVD(after clicking the burn button) for choosing which type of disc to burn to. This is what it said: AVCHD

AVCHD Video: Burn high-definition movies from an AVCHD camera onto standard DVDs for playback on Blu-ray players. A single-layer DVD can hold about 40 to 70 minutes of AVCHD video and is considerably less expensive than a Blu-ray Disc.

Does this mean only Blue Ray players will play these disc's?

I'm getting confused. Is it because of terminology? Just what if anything is it that I need to do. I get the cuda ensignia just as you have shown but my burn times to an ISO aren't any faster than EMC 10. My 3 1/2 minute video took over 5 minutes to burn, with cuda enabled. I didn't get any burn times like you have stated. Any suggestions?

Try to separate the two processes. Burn to an image file first (ISO or video-folder set). Then burn the image onto DVD.

If you see the nVidia cuda logo, then cuda is enabled.

By the way the last 3 files you listed above are not necessary. I believe they are for software developers. You don't need them at all to enable cuda in Creator 2010.

Thanks for the information. I will give it a try. In reading your reply, is it possible to engage cuda for standard def as well as HD videos?

Thanks again,grm

Worked like a charm. However, is there a way to engage cuda for standard definition video encoding from My DVD, other than AVCHD? I have tried the 'same as' option as well as 'high quality' after choosing DVD option and then burned to Disc image and did not see the cuda display. Burn time was longer than in Creator 10. I was hoping to speed that up as I use it more often.

Also, I recieved a message(in Cineplay) telling me I needed different processor to play the disc made from disc image when using AVCHD format. What am I missing?

I have been having the same problem as grm I also tried separating the processes but this did not correct the problem for me. The problem started after installing service pack 1

I recently upgraded to windows 7 from Vista and creator 2010 from 2009 can you make any suggestions would be appreciated . JJ
