could point to a problem with the media or the DVD writer or failing to buffer;

try to create image or folders on disk, first, rather than directly writing to DVD.

I have just tried again the roxio copy and convert and also the image burn. Both successfully created the image filles onto to dvd+R but failed on a dvd-RW. No idea why? BUt atleast it worked on one of them. Thank you so much for your help and support.

Thanks,

Mamatha

These two articles may help you with your problem.

Resolving General Burning Issues

Resolving Video Burning Issues

Also, use a quality media such as Verbatim.

I have followed the second link. Everything looked fine but the following error occured when i try to burn the iso file using Video copy and convert.

"Format command failed - medium error" [03/31/01]

I was using Imation DVD-RW. On the copy and convert window, under size there is no -RW. I left the deafult which is dvd-r/dvd+r.

Note: My RAM is only 512MB. does it make any differance???

Thanks,

Mamatha

Hope this error makes sense.

RAm should not make a difference.

What is the make/model of your burner? What make of DVD media are you using?

Download a free utility called Imgburn to burn the iso file to the DVD.

Thanks for the quick response. I was using Imation dvd-rw. Should i use dvd-r??

Sorry, i don't know much about dvd burners and stuff. Where can i find which model of burner i am using??

And also a small question, if i burn the iso file do i get the dvd menu i have created or the videos will be played straight away??

Thanks,

Mamatha

DVD-RW vs DVD-R does not really matter, as long you are using brand names;

re your burner: have you looked at the front of the tray? Roxio will also tell you the device specs; else, you can Google (e.g., "what dvd burner do I have") what provides tons of information. And the support / sales web site of the PC's manufacturer also elaborates on the "innards" of your system — aside the owner's manual. ;)

And as to your last question: an ISO file is the image of the (to become) DVD, i.e., is has all the 9 if not 10 (or is it 11?) yards! :)

To find out what burner you have: Open Device Manager and then click on DVD/CD Rom Drives and list what it says like I show in the picture.

Also Imation are poor quality DVDs in my opinion, get some good quality such as Verbatims. Its a good idea to use RW DVDs for testing but never for your final project burn.

Jürgen has answered you question about iso files. Have you tried ImgBurn?
