Could not record... Result Code = -18768

Question

I've been trying for the past couple of days to burn a Blu-Ray (DVD-DL) from AVCHD files (Canon HF11). Each time I get a short way into the encode and multiplex stage when it quits with the following message:

Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error. Result code = -18768.

I had successfully accomplished this in Leopard 10.6 with Toast 10.0.2. I am now running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Toast 10.0.4.

The files worked fine creating a standard DVD, but I get this same error over again trying to create a Blu-Ray DVD, DVD-DL, or disc image.

I have tried reverting back to Toast 10.0.2 to no avail; Toast 9.0.7 also results in this error.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Xeon with 8 GB of Ram.

SOLVED!

In case you are having a similar problem, I was finally able to make an AVCHD DVD (and DVD_DL) disc. The issue came down to bitrate. Apparently the AVCHD DVDs can not handle a bitrate of more than 18 Mbps; the video from my Canon HF11 was recorded at 24 Mbps. Once I set the encoding to 16 Mbps Average and 17 MBps Max the disc image wrote properly and I was able to burn it. BR should be able to handle the full 24 Mbps and thus my success at creating the BR disc image in my tests.

Toast should really warn of this when you add content.

I have a strong suspicion that this is also tied into the AVCHD Archive issue on spanning DVDs that many are having.

I am having AVCHD Archiving problems, and Roxio is no help.

I can do AVCHD Archives from 8 gig cards on Canon Vixia HF10, but the 16 gig cards do not work. Message says only 98 movies or slideshows permitted.

Can you explain where you are converting to 16bit encoding?

Thanks

I don't have a Blu-ray burner. However, my understanding is you should be able to choose Save as Disc Image with Toast 10.0.4 and then burn the image file to disc using the Image File setting in the Copy window of Toast 10.0.2.

I don't have a blu-ray burner either. What I am trying to create is an AVCHD DVD disc. I can create a BR disc and save it as a disc image, but no matter what version of Toast I try (10.0.0 through 10.0.4), I can no longer make an AVCHD DVD or image; the end result is the -18768 error message. I tried creating a BR disc image under 4.4 GB and burning it to DVD, but the PS3 saw it as a data disc and not an AVCHD DVD.

Has anyone has any success creating AVCHD DVD disc with Toast 10 and Snow Leopard, in particular the combination of 10.0.4 and 10.6.2?

It would be great to know if this is an issue that requires the attention of Roxio Support or if it is my current system.

This solution is only for the AVCHD DVDs. I am still having issues with AVCHD Archive discs. Will let you know if I figure it out, though I just ordered a Blu-Ray burner and hopefully won't have the same issues any longer.
