Newbie Burn issue

Gralar

Question

First time here.

I have a Sony Digital HANDYCAM Model DCR-TRV350. I am using the Plug & Burn option in Roxio Creator 2009 Special Edition. When it asks to select the capture device there is nothing listed. Over the past 2 days, I have tried everything I can. I have installed Driver for the cam. When I plug the cam to the USB it recoginzes the Sony. I am using a Verbatim DVD-R disc. This should be a simple direct burn but It will not recognize the cam.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks for the input. You are correct that the Plug & Burn is not reliable. I have successfully burned a short trial. But everything else has failed. I will try your suggestion of recording to a AVI file. I will research the avi file data to find out how to do this.

You cannot capture video from that camera using USB. You have to use the Firewire port on the camera and your PC.

USB is for using the camcorder as a webcam.

Also do not use Plug&Burn for capturing. I find it unreliable and if something goes wrong you have another toaster. I prefer capturing to an avi file which can then be edited.

My camera has the following ports:

S Video

Audio/Video

DV

USB

No Firewire

I assume that I must use another means to transfer my data to disk

In doing some additional reading it looks like the DV port is the firewire port. Is this correct. if so, I must buy the correct wire.

DV = Firewire,i.Link, or IEEE1394. Roxio only captures from a digital camcorder via Firewire as stated in these requirements:

For video capture: OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 FireWire card (for use with DV camera) or Roxio Video Capture USB (for analog sources).

I am sure that Moviemaker is limited. It worked for me for a direct transfer from a Hi8 to the DVD. I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to burn a DVD on XP. I sure did. I plan on trying again using Roxio and AVI file as you suggested in an earlier post. Thanks for your help. It really has helped unlike others who LOLLOLL It must be frustrating for those who are really good with computers, to hear of the simple problems that us rookies present to you.

Walt meant that you can't burn a DVD with XP's Windows Movie Maker. If you did, how did you do it?

And, we were all rookies like you, at one time. Whenever new software comes out, we are once again, rookies. :)

Gave up on the Roxio and tried the Microsoft Movie Maker already installed on my XP. Everything worked great. Was able to add Titles etc. For the average guy trying to just transfer a tape to DVD, this worked great. I say goodby to Roxio as I purchaced this software specifically for the purpose of putting the tapes to DVD
