Make Bootable

GeoffKirk

Question

The "Make Bootable" process from a floppy image on the hard-drive is not working in Creator 2010. The same IMG file works from Creator Classic - so I am able to work around this problem.

I vaguely remember in the past something about changing the load segment for boot sectors on an earlier version of Roxio. That advanced option still exists in Creator Classic (did not need to change it here), but have not found it anywhere in 2010.

Although Roxio software does have the ability to make a bootable CD, I personally don't use it - I use a program called nLite to make my backup Windows install (I presume you're slipstreaming a service pack and/or patches into an installation image)

nLite will automatically slipstream - and also slipstream in your drivers, CD key and all details and give you an 'unattended' setup disc image in the end.

The application "Burn Data Disc" has a button to "make bootable". It takes you through the correct questions (floppy, or disk image), and expects file-extensions of IMG .... all the same as previous versions. (I've been using Roxio for about 10 years in one form or another).

But when I built a disc that way - it was not bootable. Also the files-frame does not show anything representing the system files. I confirmed my IMG file is ok - by using Roxio Classic - as you pointed out is included with this Roxio Creator 2010 suite.

Aha! I think I understand you now, thanks.

The Creator 2010 suite has two data disc burners. There's the simplified Sonic burner in the 'Burn Data Disc' section of the home application, and the more fully-featured Roxio system in Creator Classic.

You're saying that the 'Burn Data Disc' simplified system won't make a proper bootable disc, but Creator Classic does??

I was just posting here in case I missed something obvious. The topic heading (Roxio Creator 2010) is the version I have. SP1 has been applied

This symptom I remember seeing in the past on some previous version, fixed in a later update.
