Runtime error using video capture

plindhag

Question

I just installed Roxio Creator 2009 on my system running Windows XP with all the latest service packs and updates. After the install, SP4 for RC2009 was done. I then attached my Sony SLV-N750 VCR using the Roxio Video Capture USB to my computer and installed the driver that came with RC2009. The program starts fine, I choose video capture and then select the USB 2861 device to capture. This is when I get a runtime error concerning the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error and Roxio Media Import program locks up. Anyone able to help me with this?

Since you have XP you can make a quick test by trying to capture with Windows Movie Maker.

This will test if the Drivers for the Device are installed properly.

There are some pictures of what they should look like, Here.

If the drivers are OK and WMM can capture, then it means the main program is broken. That in turn calls for a Clean Install: XP

Thank you for your reply. I ended up doing a clean install and got rid of the runtime error message. But now I have another problem. The capture device, which I have uninstalled and reinstalled, does not seem to work. I am using the device drivers that came with RC2009 and am using the XP driver for the 32 bit systems. When I attempt to capture, I get an unknown capture error. I have also attempted to use this with Windows Movie Maker and it states that the device is not working properly. Is there a newer device driver for the USB video capture device or what am I doing wrong. I have used this device with every USB port I have on my computer, but it still won't work.

You do have it plugged directly into a USB port in the back of your PC, correct??? Many times aux ports do not have the power needed to drive a device like this and I want to eliminate the extension cord as a potential problem too…

I would also delete the drivers and reinstall them. With the device plugged in, open Device Manager and delete these 2:

Unplug the device and reboot.

Insert the device into a Port. Cancel anything XP offers to do for you!!! If it doesn't offer then you want to open device manager again and find the drive you let it install… Plug and unplug the device and see what changes. Delete that entry.

Now plug in the device and install the drivers from the separate disc that came with your SE version.

I have followed your instructions to the letter (as stated above), including inserting the device directly into the port in the back of the computer. I still have the same results however. It seems the device is not working correctly. I am at a lost as to what to do here. The device will not work with RC2009 or Windows Movie Maker.

Of course I have been dancing all around the possibility that, the device is faulty…

Pretty darned rare but it can happen

I do not know what guarantee comes with the hardware???

I think I would give Customer Service a call first, to see what they suggest:

Only one set of drivers…

Go through the post I linked and compare yours to the pictures I listed there. If they don't match, it is not going to work!

Thank you for your patience here. I have followed your pictures but still get the same error (unknown). One other thing is that it initially states "No Signal" then it will shut dowm the capture device. I have the audio/video cables coming from the output jacks of the VCR going into proper jacks as shown in the pictures. I am not where to go from here, any thoughts?

And??

Do they or don't they match??

cd

Yes, they match as far as the connections and looking at the properties in device manager. When attempting to connect to the USB 2861 Device, is first states there is "No Signal" (in "Status"), then a dialog box pops up saying "Unknown capture error", and then the status changes to "Capture device removed". Once this occurs, I cannot do anything in the program except exit the Roxio Media Import program. I have tried all my USB ports just in case one was bad, but the program does see the device, just can't connect.
