Lost Signal

rpridge@bellsouth.net

Question

The workaround for this is to play the tape and immediately hit the pause button on the camcorder when the video appears. VHS2DVD will now see a signal and you can hit the Start Capture button. Then hit the play button on the camcorder. This will of course give you some "garbage" at the beginning of the capture file but that can easily be trimmed off.

I'm having same problem. Tried your workaround. Problem is a message come up saying signal is lost , do you want to save. It happens repeatedly so in effect, I'd be saving numerous files about 5 secs each. Also, video is lost from being captured as I'm replying that message.

Has anyone contacted Roxio about this? What is their response (I have SP2 installed).

Wonder if Best Buy will take this back?

(I split this off to reduce the clutter)

I tried very hard to duplicate this problem and cannot!

I used a brand new tape and made a recording with breaks of 5,10, 15, 20, 25, 30 seconds and lastly one of 1 full minute.

Took the tape and captured with 3 different PC's, 2 OS's (XP & Vista) and used 2 different VCR's and I can't get it to stop capturing…

Even let it capture 2 full minutes of blank tape after the last recorded segment!

Here are a few items to closely check, sort of a Checklist for Success:

  • Updated the V2D Software (SP2)
  • Good USB Port – no extension
  • Good RCA (S-Video) wires + short wire runs
  • AC Power – no batteries!
  • Proper SCART Adapter – if your VCR has one (usually PAL)

Other options…

Of course capture all the pieces one-at-a-time… (don't grumble, it is a choice of nothing or something :( )

Re-Record the tape – assumes you have the equipment. You can edit out the blank spots as you go or perhaps recording onto a new tape will do the trick. — a variation would be a camcorder that can record from an outside source.

Pass Through – some report it works others not… Connect the VCR Source to another device that has Input. Then connect the Roxio device to Output of the 2nd device…

That is all I can think of… This is one of those rare times when I wish mine had the problem so I could experiment

I can't reproduce it either.

Walt said in this post, click here he has the problem too.

I told Walt, I'm leaving these posts for him because he has the problem, I don't..

Wasn't this split from that post?
