Content/effects are missing

Hi everyone,

 

I have a Gateway laptop running Vista 64. I am using Videowave in Roxio Creator 2010 to make dvds of some old family videos.

 

After I add my video contect to Videowave and I want to add transitions or text effects etc., all of the options are missing. Instead, the dialog box (where all of the transition options or text options usually appear) pops up and says "There are no items to show in this view."

 

I do not know why this is suddenly doing this. I tried restarting my computer and Creator 2010. I also tried changing the selection from Hardware to Software in Tools, Options, Rendering...but nothing.

 

I tried reading other posts and it seems there may be a separate "content" cd that I was supposed to install, but I do not know. I did a direct download from Roxio and installed everything that was prompted. I will say that in MyDVD, there are only 4 or 5 different options for my theme (cubes, travel and a few others) and I read that this mysterious "content" cd may have additional options.

 

As always, I'm grateful for any help you can provide.

And when you are done with Jim's recommendation then apply Microsoft's VISTA 64 bit service pack 2. You can do it before if you desire.

It's a long shot, go into add remove programs and try the repair option...

You should have three install modules from your Roxio downloads of Creator 2010. Content is one of those three. Do you have those three backed up or still on your hard drive?

Yes, I located that file in my downloads folder. When I click on it, it doesn't do anything but my computer seems to be "thinking" because the mouse cursor becomes a circle.

It's possible you may have a corrupt download. Try opening the file with winzip or winrar (it's a self-extracting exe file) and extract it to a folder on your desktop. If it fails to extract, then download it again. If it does extract, just run setup.exe from the folder you made

I was under the impression it was working correct at some point?

 

That's why I recommended the repair option...

Hi.

 

I unzipped the files and installed the content, but it did not resolve the problem. I also "repaired" it from the control panel, but that did not help either.

 

Anyone have any other thoughts? I'm willing to try anything at this point since I cannot proceed with my project until I can add text etc.

I would also add that, while my main issue was not solved (effects, transitions etc still missing), the DVD theme options installed correctly and I now have dozens of choices.

If transitions are missing, it may be down to your graphics capability - if it's not up to the mark, then it will default to 'software rendering' which does omit a lot of transitions.

 

What grahics card do you have (and have you updated the drivers for ir)?

Sadly for me, I don't know how to figure out my graphics card. The computer is only a year old or so, and the transitions appeared every time I've used Creator 2010 for the last month, and then today, they just weren't there any more.

Presuming it did work open 'My DVD' and to to 'Tools' in the top bar. In that check as to whether it's checked for Harwdare or Software rendering

 

To check what graphics card you have, right click anywhere on the empty desktop, go to properties, advanced and it chould list the make and model of the graphics card

HI. I went to MyDVD and selected software, but it did not solve my problem. Here is the list of properties. Should I try uninstalling and reinstalling Creator 2010? Will I lose my completed projects if I do so?

Service pack 2 for VISTA is available from Microsoft. You might want to apply that update - it's a long shot. You should run Windows update and bring your operating system up-to-date.

I checked and MS update says that everything is up to date.

Your post #12 indicates that you are at VISTA sp1. What does your properties say now?

It still says SP1 but when I go to update, it does not show SP2 as an available update. Could it be that Vista 64 doesn't have 2 SPs? I have no idea.

Should realize by this point there is no click&fix for this…

 

Clean Install is the only viable option - Vista/Win7
