Question

When i am capturing from an analog Sony handycam the capture screen shows that I only have 4GB space left on a 1TB extrnl. drive. It stops capturing at the end of 4GB and I have to start the capture now button again. Anyone know how to get it to continue to capture beyong 4GB's?

There is no 4GB limit. I just finished capturing a 1 hr 22 min VHS in DV 720 X 480 and ended up with a 21GB file.

Do you have a internal drive you could try a over 4GB capture to?

Is that external drive formatted FAT 32? If it is, then you need to format it NTFS, or you will get that 4GB limit notification.

Also, you should capture to an internal drive, and then, if necessary, move the video to the external. With capturing, to the external drive, you are going through an extra cable connection, and although you should not have a problem, you quite possibly could have a hiccup that would cause dropped frames or an audio/video sync problem.

I am using an eSATA connection to the external.... will that prevent the "hiccup"?

Like I said, you should not have a problem, but you never know when it could happen. The e-SATA connection is the best way to go, if you have to capture to an external source.

Just don't be playing around, on your computer, when you are capturing.

No. Go to Start/Help and Support, and type in Convert FAT to NTFS. You will get instructions on how to do it.

If you have enough room, on an internal drive, to back up your data, I would do that and just format the external, then copy the data back, from the internal, to the external.
