tsantee
When this happens there are a couple things to look for. Disconnect any audio or video-related external Firewire or USB devices. Also, trash the Toast plist and prefs files in your User>Library>Preferences folder.

tsantee
NO LUCK  Look for QuickTime folders inside root and user Libraries to see if there are any codecs with Xvid in their name. If so, trash them. (The perian codec is used instead). That has been known to cause Toast to crash when launching. A couple other things to try: Start up your Mac in safe mode (hold down the shift key immediately after hearing the startup tone and release it when you see the gray Apple logo). See if Toast launches then. Alternatively create a new user and see if you can launch it when logged into that user account.
