glitches in burnt dvd

TONYNINER

Question

What would cause the finished dvd, when played back on dvd player, show picture playing, then looks like it stops or locks-up, then continues to play then lock-up? I captured a football game off VHS and broke it down into 4 qtrs. When it came to the end of the 1st qtr, it stopped playing and I manually had to skip to 2nd qtr which played o.k., then started this. The rest of dvd plays beautifully.

The project was verifed or checked by the software and stated there were no problems.

This only happened during the 2nd qtr.

Any ideas???

Hi Tony -

I have to ask: is this a 49ers game? (going by your forum handle).

Anyway, playback jerki-ness can depend on a variety of things.: From your firmware being out of date, the age of your DVD player, to the media you are using.

The first test is to give it a go on another DVD player or your computer and see if it has the same problem. In the old days, we used to recommend customers to take their DVD's to an electronics store and try it out there.

List your DVD player, media, and your DVD burner and the last time you updated your firmware just so we can eliminate those variables.

This is not good – you are just trolling for answers!

You didn't even use V2D to make the DVD, you used 2010 and have been running a thread there for 2 days.

Just to fill you in, I completely redid my computer from the bios on up and re-installed windowsXP and vhs2dvd for your information, I got rid of my terrible video problem I was having while capturing, I am just trying to find out why my final dvd, in the middle if watching it, I noticed these intermittent glitches on the disk.

I have not as of yet intalled 2010 or win7 on my 2nd drive, and I only have been using this version of XP SP3 for now, but I will attempt windows7 after I finish this project.

I am checking right now my finished 2nd disk of the previous project, I hope it was just a bad 1st burn since re-installing this.

Ahh, the good days of the niners...we'll be back. I think Singletary will get us back in the play offs in the next two seasons. He made the right move bringing back Smith.

ANYWAY :)

Occasionally, there maybe jerkiness and glitches on the layer break between layer one and two of the a DL disc. Again, the three variables are the player, the burner and the media.

You may want to try a different brand of media for starters and see if it improves. Many DVD players and burner manufacturers have specific media that they prefer. That may be worth looking into.

Yes Jon, I have read about the different media and about verbatim, but the media I am using is preferred by sony for burning, and all my dvd players are all less than a year old. I have had no previous problems using sony media, or maxell, or tdk, as all are suggested by sony. I do not use memorex as I wasted a 10 pack trying to resolve my previous issues, but memorex did play back with no issues on other projects.

As I stated earlier, I redid the last project and am watching it right now to see if this problem re-occurs again.

Here is what I have done so far: 1st project captured video using HQ settings on a DL dvd does not switch between cuts and the stop and go playback during the 2nd qtr. Smooth clear picture and playback.

2nd project using same video, now will not let me use HQ settings, had to use fit to disk settings and video is a little more grainier than the 1st disk burned, still will not switch between cuts (have to do it manually)but does not have the stop and go playback until I get to the 3rd qtr where now it shows up (I think this was at the dl break where is switches layers) did it only 3 times, then continues playing.

I am still watching the rest of the dvd and so far it's o.k.

Does this make any sense???

*update* I just finished watching the 2nd dvd and it is good other than the 3 glitches and it did switch between the 3rd and 4th qtrs, go figure...

Compared to the 1st dvd, this one turned out a little better; Video quality is just about equal. Maybe I should just capture the entire game with no breaks and see if this does better that breaking them down by qtrs.???

Have you tried a Verbatim DL disc yet?
