Very frustrating software

FedEd

Question

Very frustrating software to say the least. Several days (almost two weeks of banter back and forth with tech support. Followed all instruction and finally finding my own solution and that was just to get it INSTALLED.

Now the #$^@ thing hangs at the home screen.

Running on a Dell 8300 Dimension 1G ram, Twin 120G hard drives, NVIDIA GeForce6600GT video card, on Widows XP Pro.

All drivers updated and discs defragamented.

After reading some of the comments from others including a Doctor of Electronics that can't seem to get this to work, it looks like my best bet is to return it.

Tech support next to useless.

Have you updated all the necessary SP's for the program ? Your video card is a bit old, but still should be able to handle the program. Check Roxio support for any updates that are available for the program and also youir Win XP Pro. And if all that fails, I would still try a clean install of the program to make sure.

Frank,

Thanks, but have done all you suggested numerous times everything updated, reinstalled etc. Still hangs. Then after closing program (using cntrl-alt-del) all other programs do not respond including shut down and restart, requiring a hard boot. In fact I have had to hard boot this computer so many times since 11/19 when I bought this junk, that I'm surprised that everything else still works (providing I don't first try to open this program).

Another question or suggestion I should have asked was ---Do you have any other Roxio Program installed on the computer besides VHS2DVD ?? Several of the other Roxio programs are NOT compatible with VHS2DVD. So if you do, which other program might it be. If not, then about all I can continue to suggest is to do a clean install of the VHS2DVD program and make sure you have the USB capture device plugged into a USB port and preferably one in the back of your computr rather than a fron case USB port.

When you start the install you will get the OS wizard that wants to install the driver for the capture device. Click out of that as soon as you can. The installation program itself will install the driver along with the program itself. (continue to leave the USB capture device plugged in)Then after it has installed everything, check the "Device Manager" under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" and tell us what drivers are listed.

That alone is a pretty scary statement! :o

I have a similar PC and even have V2D running in Win7 but I know some installs can be frustrating.

In addition to the Clean Install there is a list of suggestions to use before installing – KB Page

You need to print out both and go through them line by line! Some things may not be on your PC and you can skip but NOTHING else can be skipped. Also any error messages or bumps during install are important and we need to know about them.

If you are not willing to do that then you can try to take the package back.
