Rollback installing Creator 2010 Pro

Kovacs

Question

I recently purchased Creator 2010 Pro and I am having a devil of a time installing it.

I tired to install it on an XP Pro machine which installed successfully until I try to use the menu at that point it freeze the computer. Even tried SP1 with no luck.

So I uninstalled it from that machine and switch it over to my wife's computer that has Vista Home on it. At which point it rolls back after it's done with DirectX saying that setup was interrupted. Now after browsing the forums, I did the clean install and made sure that Vista was up to date.

I looked at the log files and here's a snippet from Sonic_Setup_log. Any help would be appreciated.

I have MagicJack for my phone so my machine is up for all the time and I've been rebooted in the last hour. Like I said, when I installed Creator it started to occur and when I uninstalled it went back to normal. I didn't see anything unusual in my processes tab and the only thing in the applications tab is the browser which I'm typing in.

Ah-ha!

We created this incredibly brief article a while ago.

magicJack® and Roxio products compatibility

Strange, even in safe mode the light remains on. This is irritating, all your good suggestions did not work.

You mention a process monitor tool. I've download this from Mircosoft.

I have much time to understand the whole thing or what I'm suppose to looking for.

On a side note and totally unrelated to Roxio, my wife saw your avatar cdanteek and was in love with that movie.

I have checked for potential viruses/malware and came up clean, I'm using Kaspersky IS 2009 with automatic updates.

The only thing running in my application tab is my browser which I'm using to type this.

Shut the auto updates off.

To check for viruses/malware you used Kaspersky IS 2009 for that?

Boot to safe mode, does the HD activity light stop?

You might have to download a free Process Monitoring tool.

cd

Interesting theory so I unplugged my MagicJack and reboot the system, but it HD activity light remains on. Though I do not see any loss of computing power, the performance tab is at 0 to 4%.

Have you checked for a virus and malware?

If you open task manager does it show applications running?

cd

That did not work, the hard drive activity light is still on after 24 plus hours and still on.

Hi Kovacs -

That is weird. Was there a reboot anywhere in there or have you just been running your machine for 24 hours?

Are there any other applications running? Like an AV, defrag, or other program on a scheduled scan, etc? What does your Task manager say your processing is going?

The instructions in my previous post kill the Watch instantly so there must be something else happening...

Ok, I've managed to get in installed on my XP machine. The menu that I should be able to choose which program from the whole continues to freeze the computer, but if I access the individual programs from the start menu it appears to be fine.

Now I have another issue that is most likely the result of the install. Ever since then after windows finishes loading up the hard drive activity light is always on rather the the flashing every know and then like it used to.

Hi Kovacs -

The HD light being on is probably from this:

If running Easy Media Creator for the first time, or it's been a while since you used it, RoxWatch will require a few minutes to index your hard drive for new audio, video, or photo files. This allows Media Manager to create a convenient list of all the files you can create projects with in a single window. Once the indexing is completed, Easy Media Creator will launch faster only looking for newer files. However, if you wish to disable this function, do the following:

* Windows XP: Go to Start -> Run -> and then type "msconfig" and click OK.

Windows 7 and Vista: Click on Start -> type "msconfig" in the Search field and press Enter on your keyboard.)

* In the System Configuration Utility window, select the Startup tab.

* Locate RoxWatchTray10 (or whichever version you are using) under the Startup Item column and uncheck it.

* Click Apply and then OK.

* Reboot your machine.

* On reboot, you will receive a dialog from the System Configuration Utility. Check the box at the bottom of the window requesting not to see the dialog again and click OK.

* Launch Creator.

I have Xp Sp3 and Vista SP2 all up to date.

Thanks, Kovacs...

Take a look at this article. You have already done many of these, but it's meant to double check. Of those listed, making sure you logged on as administrator is a biggie.

Also, for some users, they accidentally install the content installer before the program. Seems obvious, but it happens.

Another option is to remove .Net Framework.

Try this:

1. Go to your computer's Start menu > Control Panel.

2. Windows XP: Select Add or Remove Programs.

Windows Vista: Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.

3. Uninstall "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1".

4. Once this process is complete, reinstall Creator 2010.

If you are still having issues, try creating a new administrator account on your computer account and install on that.

Windows XP

1. Go to Start --> Control Panel --> User Accounts. Create a new user account named Roxio as Computer Administrator.

2. Restart the computer and log into the Roxio account.

3. Reinstall Roxio Easy Media Creator in the Roxio account.

Windows Vista

1. Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Add or remove user accounts. Create a new user account named Roxio as Computer Administrator.

2. Restart the computer and log into the Roxio account.

3. Reinstall Roxio Easy Media Creator in the Roxio account.

Hi Kovacs -

Did you install Service Pack 1 on XP or Vista?

Vista is up to SP2 now and should be installed as well as any other updates prior to installing. This is covered in the article:

Creator installer rolls back then prompts "Set up is interrupted".
