After having many problems with Win XP media center, Roxio, and Media player. I was told by Dell support to up grade to Win 7 saying it would solve incompatibility issues. I bought Win 7 and made a back up of my C: drive (Docs and Settings) with Roxio B O T to my K: Drive (a 750 GB separate drive but not an external drive. I had Dell support to install Win 7 and it looks like they made a mess of it.
After installing Win 7, they tried to restore the back up files with B O T. All attempts failed. There are 2 files made by Roxio for that back up on the K: drive. One has the Roxio logo on the file and seems to contain an index of the back up. I think it’s all the folders and files without the data. The second is a folder created the same time when I backed up in the compressed mode. I named it Roxio backup 12/3/09. I can see that this folder contains all the data (about 100GB) and I can see the files. I can not open them. If I try it, attempts to open with AOL. Error messages from Roxio indicate it can not read the file extension $roxio$
When I downloaded Creator 2010 from the site I had Win XP. After installing Win 7, Dell support reloaded the Roxio 2010 from the same program exe I had saved on my desktop using Win XP to download it. Is there a conflict here??
I have to find a way to restore that back up file. Everything I have is lost. I have been working with Dell for days trying to solve it. I can’t sleep anymore. There telling me now I may have to reload Win XP and Creator 2010 and try the restore again. Then reload Win 7 and Creator 2010 again. What a nightmare!!!!
I’m hoping that someone may have some experience with this problem and be able to help, Even if it’s a steer in the direction of a solution it would be a God sent.
