Norton 2006

exsvcsinc

Question

Any ideas as to why, upon upgrading from NIS 2005 to NIS 2006 that my Roxio Creator Suite will not open? It starts to, with 'Roxio' appearing like it's starting to load, but the start up screen never appears. I have the box in the toolbar that says Roxio Creater 8 Suite, but it's as if it's minimized and clicking on it doesn't restore the window. I can right click 'close' and it will close, so it's not locking up, but it just won't fully open. I just upgraded this morning so I know it has something to do with NIS. Does anybody have any suggestions?

It's possible that Norton overwrote one of the .DLL files used by EMC 8, causing the problem. You could try a "repair" install of EMC 8 and see if that solves the problem, hopefully without breaking NIS 2006.

Let us know if that works.

Have you tried turning off the NIS security and see if Roxio opens up? I don't use NIS (sorry, don't like it for reasons such as these) but I believe you should be able to adjust some settings to allow EMC to open. In Systemworks, I sometimes have to play with the 'worm' settings to permit certain activity on some ports. I'd check into the docs to see how to do this.

It may not be the same but in Systemworks 2005, this is what I have to do. Look for 'program contol'.

I haven't ever used a software firewall because I use the hardware firewall in my router. My new computer computer came with NIS2006 and it doesn't affect Roxio on my machine. Since NIS was preinstalled, I did install EMC8 after that.

Try uninstalling EMC8 and then reinstall. Sometimes the order of installation affect things.
